Hello guys n girls, im thinking of buying a freelander diesel (from what ive read about the petrol) just got a few questions if any body can help!

ive noticed some 3 door models have 2 rear seats and other 3 seats is this just certain models or a certain year of registration.

are pre 2001 diesels less reliable than td4?

thanks in advance

The pre 2001 diesel is a lot more reliable than the TD4 cause there is not as much to go wrong, I had 1 of these engines in a rover 600 it was still running like new at 180,000 miles,
The back seat could be ordered as either a 3 seater or a 2 seater with centre plastic console, dont think it goes on spec, just a delaer option when buying it new I think

Nope, Tinytdi on around 178k miles, mine went to 165k before I sold it. Old L type diesel pretty damn near bullet proof, TD4's got some issues, both still 10x better than petrol jobbies.

Most diesels are reliable way past 100,000 miles so i don't think it matters which you choose in that respect. The TD4 has a lot more power and torque, i had an OLD rover diesel and it was underpowered for the Freelander (just a bit bigger than a Rover 600).
You should always go for the newest model you can afford, with the lowest mileage! :)
The 2/3 seater option was just that, an option, so look carefully in the ads before going to see one.
Good luck and happy motoring ! :D
