Greetings.

Currently own a Discovery 3 (55) which has been trouble free since last year. But I know sooner or later I am going to get a large and unwelcome bill.

So, I have found an 05 Defender 110 CW TD5 with 32,000 miles on the clock and somewhat 'new' looking. I feel I 'sold-out' buying the discovery and went to try an almost new 2.2 Defender 110 recently and loved it.

Comments? Thoughts?

Anyone near Edinburgh for a chat?

Anthony.

Welcome to loonyzone!!

2.2 will feel a bit different from a td5 - if you're interested go and have a test drive and see what you think! If you want it we can help with what you need to check for!

Thanks Rosie.

You mention a TD5 and a 2.2 will feel a bit different. In what way? I understand the sixth gear makes long stretches of motorway easier but as far as the ride/comfort (or lack of) is going to be the same? Spring rates and dampers are going to be similar as is steering and seating.

The td5 interior is more spacious (not the same as being spacious) than the 2.2 or 2.4. 2.2 has a more modern car like interior cos it's mostly robbed out of a focus.

At 6'4" I need the space so a TD5 might be good.

I also want a more fun car to use. The D3 is excellent in all it does and as standard, wades deeper than a defender. In Worcestershire, flooding is a problem so the D3 wins there. But I always feel I am in a technically fragile car and despite it being good for motorways and cruising generally, it is far from an engaging drive.
