The air conditioning in my 2004 SE does not work. The indicator lamp on the A/C switch illuminates after I press it when the engine is running and the fan is blowing but the compressor's pulley clutch does not engage. Fuse no.4 in the engine compartment fuse box is OK

I think that you have low gas pressure and safety switch on drier don't pass A/C request to compressor clutch.

have you thought it might not come on below a certain temperature? what is the ambient temp there at the moment?

My garage is heated, so I think that is not the reason. I'd better have the system refilled and hope this will wake it up

Probably low on gas.. it should run regardless of ambient temp, ours will automatically come on when its set to windscreen, good for demisting

Theres an electrical wire to the air con compressor to control the clutch. If this has come off then put it back. You could measure the volts on the wire but as above if your low on gas your Freelander knows and won't switch on the air con. Costs about £40-50 for a re-gas.

as said the compresor will not work if there is not enough gas in there. also when you have had it done make sure you run it for at least 10 mins per week, with out doing this the gas will just wither away.
