So I have a 1997 Land Rover Discovery 1, I would LIKE to put on 285/75 r16 tires. I have ordered the OME 2" lift, do I need more clearance? Can I do it with fender trimming or would 1" of body lift work better? The sticky makes it seem as though you could fit these with JUST fender trimming. ?.
they fit without lifting trimming is a must if using off road or loading up the rear

ive got a 4 inch lift and ive got 33s on and they rub on the front with arch triming

There is lots of ways of fitting bigger tyres without them rubbing mainly by fitting bigger bump stops or limiting the axle movement and or using different wheel offsets. A disco will need to have some trimming. Bigger bump stops limit the upward movement of the axle and thus tyre making it worse offroad. A 2 inch taller bump stop will be around 4 inches less upward travel when the axle is bottomed out. You may gain lots of droop if you fit longer shocks but you have ultimatly lost upwards travel and the vehicle will sit on its bump stops well before it was designed to out of the box which will mean it will be higher than stock with a higher CoG. LR spent alot of money developing their suspension it was, in the 70's a revoloution.
A well good suspension setup is clear to see offroad and a poor one is also an easy spot. Bare in mind you cannot have one suspension works well for all. One for high speed road work is not suited to slow speed rough terrain. LR found the compromise. There are some setups or recepies that work and have been sbout for years. I'd seriously suggest you get a rim and tyre combo before spending your cash. Also a wide tyre vs narrow tall tyre can help again with different rim offsets to work on a disco.
