I need to swap the genuine part plastic a bar that was standard on the vehicle for a steel one, just rang Privilege and they want an extra £178 per month for this? Can someone please recomend a better insurer please.

Why do they want the extra money? It doesnt improve performance, handling or in fact any thing. Did they chanrge extra for the plastic one being on there?

It was standard on the vehicle factory fitted so I didn't mention it, I told the Insurance I just want to swap like for like only plastic coated for steel, they must think it would cause more damage in a collision I suppose.

No not really.Even a little 90 weighs a lot and will make a mess of anything it crashes into with or without Bull bars.An A bar is only mounted at the bottom so not massively strong or structual.Think privalege are taking the mikey.Would it go up if you put additional lights on?

If your insurance company works on a menu priceing system then when you add extras they add more to your premium. They usually ask if you have a bull bar. Say 'no. I have an A bar'. They ask what the diffence is and you reply that a bulbar is there to protect the front of your vehicle in an impact. An A bar is there to allow spotlights to have something to mount to. I have fitted A bars to 3 out of 4 of my landys and never had to pay extra yet. Just make sure it is marked on your insurance certificate as being there so they can't try and diddle you later.
