 hi just got my 99 discovery on the road 4 weeks ago and has started idling bad like its running o 4 cylinders or less! smoky (always was a bit as turbo bosted before but now like white black and blue at times had a bearmach hawkeye diagnostic tool plugged in and came up with fault 3007 ambient pressure low,air metre flow high and low 3030 3014, misfires when driving still pulls but realy smoky when driven! if anyone can help that would be brill thanks

well it sounds like your mass air flow meter aint working so you can try unplugging that and it will run on a default code, but it will need replacing and its best to use a genuine one, also on the inlet manifold is the ambiant air pressure sensor, it has 2 bolts holding it in, remove sensor and clean using carb cleaner and put back, they get ****ted up with the crap the egr valve puts back in the engine, hopefully it'll be better after that, but think about removing egr in near future

did get another airflow sensor off ebay genuine second hand runs same with it and if its unplugged! will look for ambiant pressure sensor in the morning and post findings tomorrow thanks

fitted a egr delete kit this morning and nothing diffrent sending out blue black smoke! cleened ambiant air pressure sensor to it was gunked up but no changes fault code reader still says abt maf sensor but surely 2 cant be duff but going to try them on a mates td5 discovery later

u better check the MAF circuit/wiring, cos: \
"The MAF sensor can fail the following ways or supply incorrect signal:
l Sensor open circuit.
l Short circuit to vehicle supply.
l Short circuit to vehicle earth.
l Contaminated sensor element.
l Damaged sensor element.
l Damaged in wiring harness.
l MAF supplies incorrect signal (due to air leak or air inlet restriction)."

if u have RAVE and u are up to it i can tell u what and where to measure

Blue smoke?? Please monitor the engine oil level frequently.. Blue smoke is usually caused by engine oil .. not diesel!

the ambient air temp. and pressure(AAP) sensor is in the top of the air filter housing(this one needs attention aswell) the one in the inlet manifold is the MAP/IAT (manifold absolute pressure/inlet air temp.) sensor ... which is also good to be cleaned, but it will not produce smoke, though the AAP could do that:
"In the event of an AAP sensor signal failure any of the following symptoms may be observed:
l Altitude compensation inoperative (engine will produce black smoke).
l Active boost control inoperative.

l Turbocharger boost pressure limited to 1 bar (14.5 lbf.in 2 ).
l EGR altitude compensation inoperative.
"

i said about F2 cos this one feeds the MAF, AAP, EGR and wastegate modulator ... and if it's blown it could give you those symptoms

there are measurements on wirings to be made to make sure everything is OK

the injector harness fault/ ECU oil contamination usually goes together with "injector peak charge long" or "open circuit" fault codes

did a hawkeye live data check and theres no messurement of airflow and only 0.03v so thinking this could be the problem fuse was ok how much power should there be there? thanks

unplug it and there must be 12V between pins 1 and 3(with ignition on) ... the otput from the MAF is on pin 2 variable between 0 and 5V proportional with the mass of incoming air...

if u have voltage between pins 1-3, diconnect the battery unplug the red plug of ECM and make continuity check between pin 2 of the MAF plug and pin 11 of the red plug... i attached pin disposals

though if the sensor is at fault not the wiring the car must run much better with the MAF disconnected

ok since posting that iv plugged hawkeye into a mates disco same age and its reading the same no air flow and .3 and it runs brill i would say theres unburt fuel with mine and vibrates a fair bit at idle and when u hold revs on very smoky on road and loses power up hill am wondering if a injector or a glow plug gone?

wont be glow plug that only helps starting ,as previously said have you checked injector loom connector under front of rocker box

yea my pal changed his and it did not fix problem his so tryed his old one just runs the same did have oil in red plug of ecu but cleaned it out best i could

the injector harness i took off was oily the one i got of a pal was clean could it be possible with the amount of oil in wiring that could affect it?
