Anyone got any ideas as to why my temp gauge suddenly quit , I have fitted a new sender , also have a tacho that flickers around between 1000 & 2000 revs . Any one come across this before ??? All this on a 98 Disco 300 tdi manual .
Cheers Chris L

Had a rev counter that stuttered check the small wire on the back of the alternator as thats where it gets its feed from. I cleaned the small connector up with wd40 and a small wire brush and it works perfectly now!!! ;)

mine stuttered and i tried the wire mentioned to no avail, next thing i knew the pully fell off the alternator, so may be worth checking your pully nut is tight as a new alternator can be pricey as i found out :frusty:

Thanks johnboy & Daz I wondered where the tacho feed came from & I will check the pulley , I have to replace the dreaded P gasket this weekend ? be a good time to check the alternator wiring .Cheers ChrisL

I had the same problem with my tacho it flickered between 1000 and 2000 rpm, i cleaned the wire on the back of the alternator and it has been fine since.

Thanks Guys I found that the tacho flicker was caused by the feed wire on the back of the alternator !! Wasn't loose but the wire was silver soldered to a terminal connector & the joint wasn't good , a bit like a dry soldered joint with ordinary solder any way its fixed now thanks for all your advice . I took the alternator right out while I was doing the P gasket & pump replacement . Its worth mentioning that I did a quik fix on the P gasket leak 3 months ago with a product called RISLONE Bloody expensive stuff but it worked , they claim permanent water fix on block & head gaskets & you dont have to drain coolant or anti freeze . I better get back to the beast am now fitting a boost guage . Cheers Chris L
