Hi all

Im new to this forum,but not new to land rovers

My problem is i have a fuel gauge that wont go to a full tank,and it dosnt drop until i turn her off and on again,which is a real pain on long journeys.

Im pritty shure its the sender unit but aint got a clue where it is,can anyone help

It's inside the fuel tank and is attached to the fuel pump.
Pain in the ass to replace, but do a search on here for "Fuel Pump replacement" or search TAKdrivers posts for details.

me and nath 2346 relaced mine on me p38 we cut a hole out of the floor under the back seat if u measure it right u will be bang on thats how we did mine .then just replace a piece of tin over it popped riveted and u will have access if u need to in the future
 
You don't say if it's diesel or petrol. The petrol sender unit can be bought as a seperate unit and replaced without renewing pump. Bit expensive though i think for what it is. On the diesel model you have to replace the entire pump. Both jobs a ball ache to do.

i used the cutting the floor tecnique and its not as harsh as you think. The hole you will have to cut is underneath the rear seat and its is easily sealed back up. I just used stikaflex pu adhesive.
 
Hi all,thanks for all the replys and help. I opted for dropping the tank and fitted the sender ok,jsut couldnt cut an hole through the floor.

Problem is still there with gauge thou,dosnt move while driving but when i it turn off and on again then it goes to where it should.

Any ideas???:5bparty:

On the early models it is not possible to buy separate sender only. I have done it and you need a complete pump for about £70.
And it is a **** job taking the tank off, but still would not cut the floor...:)

Well i did buy the sender on its own and fitted it by dropping the tank

My car is 1995 petrol one and I have replaced the whole pump, because I have first got only the sender unit sent by Britparts. Had to send it back and buy a complete pump.
They all fit by dropping the tank, unless you want to use the tinopener method....I don`t.
 
Thanks for the info,but wouldnt me changing just the sender unit solve my gauge problems?
