Hey all, new to the forums, not so new to Land Rovers!

So, my 95 3.9 Disco has a terrible vibration when I got it, I went through all the usual motions, bearings, bushes, prop donut, steering damper etc which helped A LOT (swivel pin bolts were loose as were front wheel bearings!) but the vibration is still there after 55mph up to about 70/75 and finally fades out at 95. Definitely feels like transmission.

Anyway, input up with this for a few days and a rattle appeared (as they do on Landys!). Best way of describing this rattle is almost as if exhaust flange bolts were loose, but there not. As a matter of course I replaced all the exhaust bolts for new, still no difference.

A week has gone by now with said rattle gradually getting worse and at the same time the vibration becoming erratic and intermittent. I got underneath today with the engine running and the rattle speeds up with engine rpm and dies down with engine rpm, I also notice that the rattle sounds like it’s inside a tumble drier/washing machine and appears to be coming from within the Bell housing.

My conclusion, Torque Convertor.

All opinions and advice welcome folks,

Thanks in advance :)

theres an inspection cover as t/c should be unbolted before box removal and fastened up to drive plate after box is fitted

Thanks for the help, I’ll take a look tomorrow and report back with any findings.

The rattle does actually sound like a bolt being thrown around so you may be spot on here!

I managed to get the use of a 4 post car ramp to have a proper look at the rattle/knock. Turns out it’s actually the catalyser rattling around inside the downpipe!
Thanks for the help.
That’s the usual first suspect, it’s no unknown :)
