Went out this morning and noticed a small puddle of oil (no suprise you might say:D ) on the floor under my landy, looking quickly i could see it was pas fluid and it was running down the arm that comes from the steering box and onto the floor.i've read that steering boxes are always slightly leaky/damp but this seems to be quite bad.Is there a seal that can be replaced or am i looking at getting the steering box overhauled would you say?

yes there is a repair kit about 12 quid pain in arse to do without gear puller (two legged) circlip pliers

ive got the same problem on mine every time i top it up its empty in about 3 days let me know how you get on with yours
if i ever finish my welding ill do mine

Thanks,I'll have a look around for the kit.Getting a pullers shouldn't be a problem and i'll let you know how I get on.

i had the same problem was advised that that steering box had wear problems which were fixed in later models i bought a 97 box second hand and fitted it no more leaks

I had it too, most of last summer and now i have a lovely patchwork driveway......anyway i bought the seal kit from land rover and a gear puller to do the job myself......thats about as far as i got as i could not get the arm off no matter how much force i put into that damn rachet handle, i even tried some heat but eventually the gear puller bent and that was the end of that, i left it at that and actually the heat i put in slowed the drips but then come MOT time they failed it because of some safety thing, anyway long and short of it £160 fitted but going by the location of the pump i'm glad i paid someone else to do it now. if you can get the arm off then the seals themselves should be easy enough to change but if the shaft is worn then it may only be a temporary solution.
