Hi all

Previously had a 2 inch lift on my 1995 defender 90. And for a number of reasons Ive decided to return to standard.

So I purchased some low milage genuine springs and shocks off a 2013 puma 4 seat station wagon.

Now, one of the things that bothered me with the two inch lift was the stiff ride, and it sits arse high.
Well so do the new springs! Is that due to them being off a station wagon and mines a truck cab?

Is there a way of rectifying this? I've been advised to fit new front springs on the rear, due to it being a truck cab that should level it out, what do you guys think?

Lastly, the shocks didnt seem to fit, there was a huge gap between the bushes and the axle mount. Id used all of the thread up too. Any ideas?

Stuck my 2" decarbon shocks on the rear and that stiffened it up even more.

Pre 2000 Defender springs needed, (I think) not Puma .. different vehicle entirely .. ;)

I cant see the weight of sw sides/roof and a rear door making much if any difference to the ride height?

They are either too expensive, made by britpart or no longer available.

Britpart springs are too stiff. I think there are lots of people that have fitted new take off springs with good results.

Cheers

Personally I've got Britpart springs and have had them for around four years with no issues

@flatlander was swearing by his Range over springs the other year.

Do not know if he is still using them or not.

Still fitted, and I'm pleased. The rear rides a little higher but not unacceptably so, and gives longer travel and less of a bump when landing. Our club gives the public rides at the Suffolk show, on a specially made course. I notice the difference, especially with five passengers - they can usually keep their fillings in:p

Thanks for your replies guys.

Marmaduke have you got heavy duty britpart springs (yellow) or have you got standard ones?

What are your opinions on using front springs and on the back to try and level it out a bit? The back rides very firm.

Also; do gas shocks stiffen the ride over oil filled shocks?

Cheers
