Mine appear to be missing for some random reason!
I'm watching these on ebay:

is it as simple as a straight bolt on jobby?

Apologies for sounding like a real novice!, but although I've had a defender before, I didn't treat it as a project like I am this one!

Are you sure that you're not getting confused with these?

The bits that you are looking at run from the bulkhead bolts to the tub under the floor and can't really be seen unless you're looking from underneath

Or you could get some jackable sills like these that allow you to use a high lift jack under them

If you look at my picture. I don't have the sill supports, so chequer plate sills wouldn't have anything to 'attach' to!!

This was an option, but these things are £300.

Tree sliders have a bar that juts out but you usually end up rubbing the back of your trousers on them when you get out which is a pain in the ass if they are muddy

Are you sure that you haven't already got them, they are what your seat box and floor pans attach to?

I'm ok with 'regular' sills, or even the chequer plate - in fact we probably will go with the chequer plate looking on that parts diagram (what a cracking find!) the sill supports sit higher than I thought, so I'm not sure how the actual sills attach to the car? - there is no 'flat surface' to bolt the sill plates onto?

Sorry mate, that was my rather retarded mistake, they sit higher up and can't be seen, so had made the assumption that they were there to support the sill plates - but you're right, I do that the supports! LOL (glad you made me check).

SO, I still have the question of how do the regular sills attach?

When you look at the eBay picture you posted the flat part they are standing on attaches to the tub and the other end attaches to the bulkhead, the checkerplate then bolts to the two brackets that you can see jutting out and also to the front wing

Right, I think I've decided - looking at those jackable sills - they don't need to attach to the original sill supports - they slot into one of the chassis jacking points and another chassis support - both of which look solid on my car - so I think for ease of fitting, I'll just get those instead !!

The outer body panel sill just attaches to the inner structural sills with L shaped brackets.

Too many slots, me thinks.

This is a drivers side. The 'flange' on the right hand side bolts on to the bulkhead.
Then one of these bolts on to the opposite end to the flange and then to the front of the tub.

Here's another picture of the tub end sill upstand, but with two of the L brackets used to hold the outer sill panel.

I'm going to stick with this car, but it is starting to grate on me that I may have been sold something more 'cobbled' together than I'd have liked!!

Ok, so back to stage 1 - I'll pick up those sill supports in my first post (the seller is literally about 5 minutes from me by complete coincidence!!), and change this home-made crap back to standard.

I've actually changed my mind again about what I'm going to do, which is why I asked the question - I'm now going to remove the lift kit, fit 'standard' sills (or chequer plate), then fit some side step bars to it so my wife can get in it ok.
