Hi,
I've got to change my 90 fuel tank over the weekend and wondered if there are any tips (other than emptying the tank first) to make the job easier?

right, iv done a fair few of these, the best way iv found ( presuming the tanks under the drivers seat ) is to undo the sill and remove the aluminium plate, then remove the actual sill the galvanised steel section between the bulkhead leg and the rear tub , this makes it so easy to remove the tank, or yer buggering about fer hours trying to do as per haynes manual and slide it at an angle, fer get it., just remove the sill :)
 
I wish I'd read this before I followed the haynes advice!! Got it done but it took some getting out. Funny though after 20mins of trying to put it back in and lots of cussing. I stop, started again and it just sliped in to place!! However I still donate several pints of blood to the landy and I've got eyes full of S**t.

Found this thread after looking for some inspiration whilst trying to remove the old rusted tank from my 90 and fit the new one in.
With hindsight (and why the Haynes manual doesn't tell you to do this I don't know) the main thing I would say is save yourself a load of scrapped knuckles, cursing and scratched new tank by removing the 10 or so nuts and bolts that hold the door sill in place, take it out and your old tank will come out and the new one will fit in like a dream. Otherwise this whole bollox of "drop the front end and rotate anti clockwise" just doesn't work, trust me. It is just far too snug a fit. Other than that it is definately a one spanner job!
