Hi all

I want to get a roll cage for my 90. Im pretty sure i only want a front one as im not going to be doing competition or anything serious.(what do you class as serious?!)

my 90 is a hardtop with no back seats, sorry a non county. i dont however want to fill the back with legs and cross braces etc etc. i know that it will need an internal hoop and support legs heading towards the back and a cross brace.

I cant find pictures of the inside of a 90 with the type listed below. does anyone have any?

this is the said cage:

Extreme 4x4 Ltd 90 HARD TOP & COUNTY STATION WAGON ROLL CAGES

and this is the one i thought suitable: RBL926SSS

can anyone help with photos or give me any pointers as im struggling a little.

Many thanks

Matt

No one wants to tell me I should get a full cage? Or give me pros and cons?!

Or have i by some stroke of luck selected the right cage?

These may help, but I've not got any internal bracing so guess mine is a little basic for what you're after?

well it looks about right.

its a personal choice and you have to know/be confident that it is right for your intended use.

I have a full external from Whitbread as I could mount my RTT and 1/2 roof rack on it. I wanted it for overland use so it needs to protect body panels also. I could potentially tip it on the side or roof in Mongolia and continue my trip (with less hassles than a crumpled roof and sides) to Siberia.

I opted not for the internal hoop as I wont be doing anything high speed or daring and I need to maximise internal space for supplies. The only rollover I am likely to encounter is a very slow tipping one (hopefully), the internal hoop would have added unwanted weight.

If you want a cage that is more discreet then yes the front ext and internal hoop are excellent and will provide the driver and passenger with excellent safety standards.

If your getting a cage made, just make sure its by someone who knows what they are doing and dont skimp on the cost. You have linked to a supplier I detest so I would approach Safety Devices direct if that is indeed the company you want to hand over the $$$ to. It is them afterall that has gone through the R&D of the cages, the other outfit just make extra profit from them.

I agree! That lot you linked to are just Scorpion Racing by another name. They are renowned for taking other peoples products for sale, copying them then marketing themselves.

Go direct to Safety devices, protection and performance or Malcolm Whitbread direct.

whilst I to agree with your initial point, these cages are not copies. I think they are just re-sellers for SD. It gives SD another outlet for sales.

Ah, OK! Nice way of increasing sales for SD.

Having said that, this is how they started out with a lot of their products only to copy them!

this is true. X eng disk handbrake springs to mind, as does some of the mudstuff line and Mobile Storage Systems IIRC. I am glad these British innovative companies are still afloat as people should be buying and supporting them rather than saving a quick $ and buying off the fat (copy) cats.

Thanks guys advice noted, I'm a massive fan of British engineering and innovation. I only chose SD as I've had a cage from them before in my mini. I know there cages are trusted and I like the quality.

I will like you suggested be going straight to them. I will have a look at where they are based and see if it's possible to go down to them.

Many thanks for the replies.
