I've started making some more racking for the left hand side. For the back and sides I want to use something like plastic panelling, any ideas which is best to use? i.e. HIPS, PVC, Acrylic etc. and where would be good to get some? Ebay only do smallish panels and delivery is astronomical on sheets of PVC.

All looks very good. Ideally you want the gas bottle outside. I've seen some weird and wonderful brackets for them where they sit quite high up to the side of the back door. You would want something lockable as . I'm not sure how dense the gas is and it would also depend on what you use, but another possibility would be storing the gas bottle underneath with a protective cover providing that the gas is heavier than air.

Oh and for the back, why not some ply covered with automotive carpet? That's what I'm going to do with mine.

No sooner said than done, I'm getting good at this manual labour stuff :D

Just got to get some wing nuts
Where are you sticking the gas bottle? I have seen some other Defender expedition runners mount it on the outside of the 'fender like so:

Also with the internal door hanging cooker, I have seen people make a double foldout surface so that you can have a regular surface when cooker isn't in use, and then cooker can fold out onto that when you need it. Also recommendations were to remove rear wiper to fit cooker closer to the door, also I think it could be a fun place to hook the gas feed for the cooker if you remove the wiper and motor totally :D

It was a tough call for me, the reason for eventually choosing a 90 over the 110 was the turning-circle and access to some of the roads up here are only allowed in 90 wheelbase or shorter. Figure if I ever go big expeditions, i'll grab the expedition roof rack, roof tent and a Wolf trailer or something. Roof rack and expedition awning plus roof-tent is definitely high on my list though :D

you 2 are lucky, you dont have kids. Add them in and you can forget camping in a 90.

It was a bloody disaster when we tried it.

I need a 130 now Rooh is here!

I didn't realise you can't go on some roads if your wheelbase is too long :s

Hmm, I haven't worked out the gas bottle yet. I only have one of the small ones, so I'm hoping I can make some storage on the shelf somewhere. If it was outside I would be terrified of reversing into something with it and exploding...

I have tried my cooking platform and it works quite nicely, is similar height to the table I have. Folding out to double the size is a good idea though, space for cooking stuff then.

Yeah...but 90s look better and I'm shallow :D

I keep changing my mind on the trailer, I can see it would be useful for storage and cooking, but it would also be a pain. Roof tent is a must, I love ours.

Whilst we don't have kids, we do have a big fluffy brown collie. He takes up a lot of space!

There are a couple of lanes around here that I think a 110 would struggle to get around, though I do find the 90 is particularly space limited. I can get a bike in mine, but not easily!

They are few and far between, but enough to swing my choice. And turning circle is definitely important around here as a main vehicle. The 90 does the job perfectly :)

I guess if you're not carrying loads of kit then a 90 is defo better ... 1 day I will buy 1, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon !

That looks nice and simple for the Arabs to nick.

Looks good. I'd been chewing over similar ideas to create hidden storage in mine and I wanted to be able to access the storage compartment from above as well. My thought was being able to get gear out but from inside the vehicle, or should anything occur that would result in the rear door being damaged/inaccessible (RTA, breakage, zombies outside ;), weather, whatever) so I'd been thinking of recessing several smaller compartment lids into the floor to enable me to get to specific bits of kit. I was also thinking of using yacht locker style lift up stainless steel ring handles - these recess into a space as well giving you a nice flush finish. I was also chewing over the idea of the whole top section rolling out as a oner separately (the compartment lids would be mitred into it like yours so would remain in situ when the whole floor section pulled out - compartments stay behind). The idea being to rig up some type of support for that section with either folding/pack away legs to support it from below or some type of strap to support it from above - straps going up from the furthest 2 corners to the roof rack maybe. This would give you a secure table or worktop. Does this make sense to anybody besides me? Getting even more Health Robinson, if you had a solid section (no lids in it) sleeved above the compartment lids section, you could roll that out as a locking extension and create a sleeping area, so you have the floor section with lids in inside the vehicle locked to an extending supported section for sleeping on, raised bed handy for expedition purposes - rig your tarps/tent up around the back of the Landy. If that doesn't make sense just pass me a cold compress and I'll go lay down again.
Anyhoo, good thread, enjoying watching the ideas develop.
