Dear all, would just like to have some advice from other landrover users!

Basically as you can see from these two photos above I have managed to remove the cover from the fan, but actually getting to the nut on the coupling seems impossible! What i think has been done is the owner before has installed the fan (god knows how) in reverse so the fan is blocking the nut, or is this the normal way it is installed? because the fan is sucking air? so surely its the correct way round!

any help would be marvellous!

regards

mike

Yep that is the correct way round. There is a special tool to remove it or you can do as I did and swear at it for a few hours trying to undo it with regular spanners. Just remember that the thread is the opposite way round aswell.

exactly what i've been doing all day! bloody annoying, will have to invest in an offset spanner!

i dont know how changing it will help cool your engine better. if its turning and you have the correct cowling on then thats that. if your needles going in the red then change your coolant or check your thermostat. you could even consider an electric fan after you have changed your engine to a 200tdi like everyone else with any sense does

yeaah i guess so, but at the moment, the viscous fan coupling is spinning freely when the car is hot, so im guessing getting a viscous coupling that actually works will make a difference? needs a new radiator but thats a little bit more expensive to replace! one thing at a time i guess!

also will this spanner do?

Halfords | Laser Fan Spanner 32/36mm
