Hi All
I have owned for the past 8 months a 2015 65 plate RRS TDV6.... with 40k miles.
I'm experiencing an 8th gear judder which is driving me insane.
I've had wheels balanced, tyres replaced and the transfer box flushed twice. With no improvement to the problem whatsoever.
My conclusion is that it's most certainly a transmission/drive problem and the judder is more apparent when driving the vehicle conservatively. In sport mode, with a more aggressive driving style, the problem is less apparent.
It almost feels as if the car is in the incorrect gear when driving in auto mode, ie in 8th gear at 50/60mph when it should be in 7th gear?
Any ideas please?

Any leaks from around the gearbox I seem to recall the 8spd ZF had a leakage issue with the late model L322's it could of migrated across to the latter models aswell L405 etc etc

it could be worth having the fluid changed to see if it improves it any..

Like the ZF6hp it locks the converter in every gear and it can judder if the fluid is low or contaminated.
 
The car has just had 40k service at LR dealer (Bishops Stortford) and one of their technicians was adamant that the problem was transfer box judder. They flushed the box twice but it made zero difference.
When driving in normal conditions at say 50-60 mph the car shifts to 8th gear and doesn't like to downshift from 8th gear when accelerating beyond this speed. If you paddle shift into 6th or 7th gear at about 50/60mph, accelerate the car harder through the rev range in the 6th and 7th gear, the 8th gear drive is smooth and without judder. The judder only appears in 8th gear when revs are low?
 
Don't know the box at all, can a clutch be slipping under attempts to accelerate in that high gear, but not slip when the revs/load ratio is better?
 
My s type jag used to judder at low revs/high gear.
Think it's a trait of the jag v6 diesel.
As mentioned above, there might be some updated engine and/or gearbox software to help it.
That said, I can't believe it's the transfer box. If there was anything wrong there I'd expect it to happen in other gears too.

I don't drive the car a great deal, mainly weekends and short distances. Yesterday I decided to go for a longer drive to attempt to fully understand what is happening.
So... what I've realised is that I can actually make the car judder whilst driving in gears 6, 7 and 8. It appears that it doesn't want to change to the appropriate gear when accelerating from a steady speed. For example cruising at 55mph it will move to 8th gear. When accelerating past 55mph (in 8th gear and automatic driving mode) it wants to hang on to the 8th gear (as opposed to automatically downshifting) and this is when the juddering occurs.
I have also driven the car hard in paddleshift mode from standstill through to 90mph and the only thing I noticed was a slight vibration about 75mph which could be tyre/road related but nothing to cause concern.
I'm pretty sure it's a transmission related problem, but I'm perplexed as to why the car drives well up to speeds of about 50/55mph in gears 1,2,3,4 and 5, but above speeds of 55mph in gears 6,7 and 8 its problematic?
Anybody recomment any LR 4wd transmission experts around the Cambridge area?

Check with Land Rover to see if there are any software updates.

Hi there, I know this is an old post... did you get this sorted as I have the same issue. My Land Rover independent garage has diagnosed a faulty injector

Yes I know I'm a dinosaur, but 4 is enough for me & I can remember when I only had 2 in a powerglide 'box.

Well my understanding is that its all about keeping the engine in its rpm sweetspot so it works more efficiently and pollutes less or something along those lines.
Imagine they put a 10-speed into a ford ranger pickup truck, and it always feels like that thing is in 2 minds about which gear it should be in - push the loud pedal to the floor, and it takes a few seconds for it to consult the oracle on which gear you need to pass.

Like CVT, it keeps the engine revs at their most efficient, however despite it being at a more efficient point in the rev range, it still consumes more fuel than it would at lower revs in some circumstances. The torque converter tends to keep the engine revs up unless i's locked so IMO more than 5 gears in an auto is needless complication not to mention weight.
