i was wondering if it was possible to take off the 88 back and replace it with a 109 safari back ,

what i need is convert it into a 4 seater with proper back seats

any ideas people other than the obvious of getting a 109 safari ?

thanks for that ,i didnt have my doubts about that but i thought it was worth asking ,suppose i will sell the 88 and start again ,i know people want them for being the swb and good for off roading

You can buy fixed, forward facing seats to go in the back of an 88'', they come with three point inertia reel seatbelts too, so ideal for little people's seats.

Downsides are that (a) you lose all your luggage space (well what little space you had!) and (b) they are not cheap!!!

I suppose it might be possible to lash up your own forward-fit items somehow, using home-brewed subframes then get them belted up (get this done by the pro's - I'd recommend Quickfit of Stanmore).

no, you are all getting confuddles, i understand what he means, right, swap an 88 rear tub for the short rear tub off a 109 station wagon,the main problem would be the doors, you would need sw rear doors and tops off front doors. you would also need a brace to strengthen the the tub as you will have no rear bulkhead,apart from that there will be numerous niggling issues that will need resolving as you go along, but to be honest you are still going to have only 2 doors. your rear seats will still have to contend with the raised bits in the tub. you might as will just get a rear bulkhead replacement bar and fit front facing seats in the tub
