It is with a heavy heart I have to sell my beloved Series 3 Fire truck 1984 88 inch.

She started out as a fire truck in Merseyside, and then was a museum piece for some time, see one of the pictures taken from this period.

She has documentation and usage from back in the day (detailing start/stop and pump time).

I am not sure what happened since but I picked her up a few years ago and with the best of intentions wanted to return her to the museum glory. I found one of the pictures on the internet which shows her with the museum plate.

So there is no MISUNDERSTANDING… The pic of her on the road is NOT as she is now…… The picture front facing with the dog is as she sat a year or so ago. She is not in pieces, I only included those to show what I have done and some the condition of the engine bay "which is quite good"

What is it ?

Land Rover Series 3 88 inch Fire Fighting Truck, I assume she wasn’t used for main fires but more for mop up afterwards. She contains 250 litres Water storage with a power take off pump and lots of hose which provides high pressure fire fighting ability to throw water in excess of 80 metres with a hose length of 34 metres.

I think the back tank is 250 litres.

She can be refilled via a bottom valve, I assume this would fit any hydrant, she also comes with solid hoses to suck up from ponds/lakes etc via a generator.

Large selection of tools, firefighting equipment, ropes, pipes, flap pads, first aid kit, extinguishers etc etc.

Why am I selling

Quite simply I don’t have the time for the project in order to do it justice or the space to keep this undercover. Most of my effort has been well spent making her watertight and roadworthy. I think she is close but I do not have the time to finish a lot of the jobs completely. Door putty for example, in the meantime my main vehicle is suffering.

What I have completed.

Engine Timing (set and chain changed)

New Injectors (£240)

Fuel pump timing (to the best of my ability)

Outrigger replacement (both front)

Front DS dumb iron replacement

Various electric fixings.

Thermostat replacement

Siren Fixed (NEE NAWW)
Blue light fixed (refitted)

Heater Plug refit kit (glo plugs upgrade)

Most brake lines replaced/clutch fixed/bled etc.

Door top replaced, this comes with spare glass etc for more than 1 door. I putty filled this and always intended to tidy it up but never finished it.

She starts, runs however is a little smoky. I have never got to the bottom of this but she has been used for pumping water from one area to another approx 50 hours or so over the last 3 years. I suspect its just a fuel pump tweak or re-do of the valve clearances as so much has changed.

She sat for many years (I think about 8 without an MOT) I always intended to just get her MOT'd and then let her be used to clear and get up to temperature etc.

Chassis is in great condition she starts runs, handbrake works, brakes work but are not the best, I think they just need to be used more.

On the last usage I did notice a pin hole leak from the top of the water tank which should be easy enough to weld/patch.

Bad Points

I will be as honest as I can, the smoke is 10 times better than it was when I received her but I suspect it would need the last tweak of the pump to resolve and pass an MOT.. Some floor welding would be required and fitting the window fully and correctly and resolving the top door bracket.

Paintwork leaves a lot to be desired

Spares

A big tub of spares including remaining dumb iron (not yet needed to be fitted), all manner of extras, window glass, fittings etc etc. Brake/Clutch reservoir etc..

Do you have any internal pics please. Might need this to help with tree irrigation if this dry summer continues!!!

250litre tank does not seem very big so would like to see pic of that if possible.

I'm still interested. Just trying to convince the significant other...

I'll take any more pics you might have via PM that would aid in the persuasion tactics.

Assuming it is still for sale.

Im getting closer.... I've found a mate with a trailer.

Where are you? Im in Bristol so need to see if its a viable journey towing it on trailer.

Check these out... sent from someone with the sister vehicle

Started her up freed off the clutch and drove her to a self built shed today.. :( Must say, started first time ran well, no smoke unless revving and the brakes worked a treat.... Seriously tempted to keep her now I have her out of the wind and rain.

When you fleabaying it??
I'm back in sheffield Friday where we have the national emergeny services museum.
I'll call in to see if they would be interested in either buying it or giving me somewhere to store it as i don't have covered storage yet.
