we were driving along and I saw a nice newish defender, I pointed it out to my daughter who instinctively shouted in the most mocking voice she could "truck friends" and started to wave (we were driving a MX-5)

Anyway I mentioned that I had thought about having our old defender painted to give it a more modern look, from its current "farm blue" she gave me a look of horror and said don't be stupid daddy it's a truck it should be blue!!!

sometimes I think I've failed as a parent but then she does something like that and I think all the private education in the world couldn't have taught her that!!!!!!!!!

when she went "truck friends" was she licking the window at this point and this distracted her?

And this is where you tell us that she's actually 17 years old :p

As for the Defender, take a picture I want to see it, then I shall decide on a colour for you, or determine whether your daughters statement was accurate ;)

Cute and not too taxing on the wallet at the mo, wait till she gets older and she wants dad to buy her a landy like mine did.

MX3 :eek::eek::eek:
Says in your profile you run a Ford dealership. Is that another name for a hairdressers LOL :)

May run a ford dealership but that doesn't mean I like to drive new cars!!!

no matter what one of my "old bangers" I turn up for work in I get stick if it's not because I look like a farmer it's for hair dressing.

Not sure about getting expensive she already is!! She has grown up around cars at home and already has a good understanding of what she wants, she has never forgiven me for selling my wife's Elise as she had always promised her it, still she has a short list drawn up to make your eyes water however she loves the Landy and I would love her to have one, I think they are a great way for a youngster to learn about cars and how they work.

Anyway we got some great news today it's passed its MOT and I can pick it up!!! Just got to wait for the dreaded invoice to be put together so I know if I need to put them off until payday!

That's normally me to be fair!! I get mocked non stop for the waving thing, I tend to end up with cars they require a wave, the MX-5 is the same however the hairdressers are normally better looking than the farmers :p

I concur with your daughter, the blue does look good. HOWEVER, I would be very tempted with one of the following vintage style options:

  • Keep the roof white/cream, spray your alloys vintage cream, paint the Defender in vintage Marine blue.
  • Keep the roof white/cream, spray your alloys either vintage cream or Heritage / Grasmere Green, spray the Defender in Heritage / Grasmere green.
  • maybe series mid-grey?
Just don't have it done black like every other bloody Land Rover out there :p

By the way, really like those wheels/alloys/hubs.

Thanks for that I really like the idea of the roof and wheels in cream, I have been thinking how to lift the wheels as they need a re-furb anyway.

They are older Wolfrace alloys, I should leave the blue as is its in lovely condition it was the underside that needed painting!
Do you think the cream roof and wheels would still look good keeping the original blue? I suppose worst case I just change the wheels back the roof would look OK in cream no matter what.

I wouldn't go black I don't want it looking too new!

It might look okay, if you can get me some high-res pictures i'll give it a shot for you so you can get an idea.

Have a look at this, I would be tempted to do something like this. Here is a 2 second job I did to get an idea, ignore the terrible shopping, i'm working at the moment so don't have time to do it neat or with shadows etc :D

I might also be tempted to do the front vent flaps in cream too :D

Loving that, it should have side windows from next week I just need to fit them, would actually be a good time to paint the panels whilst they are off.
Thanks for your help and ideas
I should be getting it back Tuesday/Wednesday so I will get some better pictures taken

I'm really liking the idea my only concern is how much of a mess the wheels will be in after a bit of off roading?

No problem :)

Mess, in what way? mud? If so, you should be jet-washing the entirety of your vehicle as part of the routine, including the undersides, otherwise rust WILL get the better of you :)

I was thinking more scratchs etc.. I've got a few jobs to do once I get it back so once all the important stuff is done I will have a play, I can get wheels painted fairly cheap so would be worth a try worst case they go back as they are

I was going to ask about colours, I had my plans all set. Firenze red and black roof and wheels, maybe bonnet.
Seems they are all turning up in 'my' colour scheme!!
Re-thinking!!
