I've just come across this, very impressive! Whereabouts are you, I have a couple of friends near Glasgow into hot rods who do some shows - one has just finished a Ford Pop and is starting on another, the other drives a yellow Coupe De Ville.
Any pics of the Roadster by the way?

Im up near Dundee , I know a few fellas from the west coast , Ross Morrison , Billy Marshall, Brian Watson .. I rebuilt the body of Brians 34 3 window Ford about 8 years ago.. that was a show winning hot rod but I dont really do shiny stuff.

Ihave a couple of Roadsters, the 28/29 model A and a 27 T they are both on the back burner just now , waiting on some body trim parts from the USA for the A roadster .. Its a heap ..

Billy’s a friend of a friend, PM incoming!

Took the wife for a run in the land rover today .. great weather and scouted for some new locations for future camping areas ..

Landy is running really good , had more than a few great comments when folk have seen it and the old fella I scored the OD from I visited him and ley him drive the car . He's been into them since the early 70s and rated the drive in this landy as being as good as anything he could remember, complimented the smoothness of the suspension and steering and how responsive the engine was .. He also confirmed that the various gearbox musicals were all standard LOL..

snapped a couple of pics from earlier today .. land rover in its natural environment, some dumb ass bloke wanted his pic taken with it .. lol Looks like a top model if you ask me , candidate for the next Bond movie :)

These things are never finished :) went around by an old farm place today where a fella used to work on landrovers. I haven't been there for over 15 years . Anyways, he's still there, working away. Had a chat re series beds ( he didnt have any) but he did have a 5 bearing 2 1/4 petrol motor he pulled from a tdi conversion.. Held onto it as it was a good engine .. hope to score that in a week or two if the price is right .. also asked about a connector pipe from the carb to the air cleaner hose, the seemingly elusive and uber expensive piece of tin to assist the delivery of clean air to the carb.. £25 later I left with the part and the required hose .. price was the same without the hose so took it anyway but used the new one .. got it all connected up and looking spiffing .. must be down 5bhp but wasps and flys are no longer consumed and washed down with copious amounts of hydrocarbons :)

Had another purchase offer the other day , day one I was offered £8000 for the old fella , yesterday I was offered £10k from a completely different source .. declined both but good to know there is interest .. Its not for sale , kinda loving it , in a manly land rover type of love ..Drives like a normal car, surprised me really, must have been a decent thing to drive when they were new ..

5 bearing may have the unleaded head on it .

hes having to look it out and let me know a price .. It was stored behind piles of old junk and bits of wood. I wouldn't mind stripping it for a check / rebuild and set aside .. for when mine gets smokier. Its not bad just now just a puff on start up ..still a good strong motor :)

As for the carb elbow I used a silicon 90 & cut down to suit. Only because there was not much room in the engine bay/bonnet after the conversion

Having seen the cost of the elbows on Ebay I was going to do the same , but was never getting around to it ... time was right to ask if he had anything.. wasted 20 mins of his day so didn't mind stumping up for the bits :) Twas still Half the price of the ones I saw on ebay !! Definitely goes better without it, but its a dirty environment under that bonnet.. Just got to paint the top of the air cleaner before I can call it done :) It would probably be much better with a paper element type but it is what it is .. :)

Thank you for your kind compliments .. Its now my daily driver :) love driving it its not what I expected , I was anticipating a crash bang wallop ride and lots of wailing and knashing of gears ..

The latter is probably accurate depending on what the ambient temperature is in Bolivia on any set day ( yup its that random) but on the whole it drives great , its fairly quiet steers like a dream and rides really smooth ..

It oes use a wee bit of oil but it doesnt leak its a strange old boy .. like to puff some reek on start up but after that its all good .. Love the Fairey Overdrive .. keeps it civilised :)

landy was running like merde today.. black reek from the exhaust and cutting out at lights and kangarooing etc etc.. got home and had a look over it beefed up the manifolds again,, still crap, disconnected the air filter. still crap, Hmm its definitely ultra rich like its just dumping fuel in and the mixture screw does nothing .. Ok took the carb off and tore it apart, not much to see but did consider the floats to be a wee bit low .. cleaned it all blew it out and put it back on.. Still crap , clamped up the vacuum lines to the servo and the dizzy, nope still crap.. Hmm , could it be more serious.? pulled the plugs expecting them to be a mess , they were black but they looked freshly blackened , cleaned them up and checked the gaps al OK so did a compression test expecting low compression, bearing in mind I did nothing to this engine other than change the oil and filter.. all 4 cylinders 165 psi dead .. haven't checked the spec but didn't consider that to be to bad .. plugs in fired it up ... still the same ..

Had a wee think then pulled the carb top off again and checked the float height .. by actually measuring them this time .. 2mm high at 35 mm so dipped it to 33 and called it done and reassembled the carb .. I should have fired it up at that point as a reference ,, but moved right onto points .. Points appeared to have closed a wee bit so re gapped them at 15 thousandths of an inch and put everything back together .

Fired it up and it was idling sweet , screwed in the mixture and it reacted to the changes . st the idle and mixture and had a look down the carb .. no sign of fuel being dumped in as it was previously and very responsive ..

re connected the air filter and took it for a spin .. Initially a wee flat spot ( cold) but not kangarooing , no stalling and pulls clean good response when warmed up with flat spot gone .. didn't have time to check any further but relived to get it sorted . Probably idling better than it ever has .

Si it was either the float level or points or a combination of .. my moneys on the float level or a piece of much being dislodged lol..

Before I began I also sprayed the inlet manifolds at the gaskets with wd40 but that made no difference either ..

Its really annoying when you dont find anything obvious , but for now its running like a swiss watch , well, maybe an old Timex windyupper :)

long may it continue ..

Still good, looks like its sorted for the time being .. idles so slow and so quiet I still think its stalled but nope its running .. and running pretty good pick up cleanly from walking pace in top .. still getting a puff of blue smoke on start up but other than that so far so good .. love driving it easy to drive .. not so easy to park but I just look for a BIG space ..:)

Bought this engine today for £250, collecting it tomorrow, still dont know if its a 3 or 5 main bearing but for the price I dont think its to bad either way ..

Had a run in a friends series 1 short wheel base diesel today, It went pretty well, I thought we were flying along the road but the speedo said 45 lol, seemed like we were making good progress , rattles a plenty , but what a ton of fun. The ride wasnt as choppy as I expected either .

I gave him a drive in mine letting him drive. He was flabbergasted, couldn't believe how well it drove or how quiet it was. Both great old land rovers, the same but different :)

confirmed its a 3 main , went along to collect it today , paid up but I didn't want the engine rattling around in the back of the landy and we couldn't find an old tyre to drop it in to stop it .. didn't manage back today w=but no big deal.. Unfortunate thing is that it doesn't have the manifolds m dizzy or starter .. so not really as pulled but it was reasonably clean , dry stored and turned with obvious compression so not all bad :) will collect the bits needed to complete it over the next couple of weeks and see if I can get it to run before deciding what road to take with it :)

Getting used as it should , collected some 2x1 metre steel and ali sheets and a couple of lengths of 40x40 lightweight box ( cut down to 2.5 mtr lengths) . Dropped them at the shed then nipped to my buddies to collect an MGB engine and gearbox dropped them in the back of the 109 and you would nexer know it was there :) Proper workhorse :)

Still have the old landy, but unfortunately I hvent even had time to start it for the last couple of months. Having read through the posts , I think I will fire it up and take it for a drive later on Monday .. I really do enjoy driving it but I jsut dont use it enough .. I bought a wee Aygo for a runabout , spoilt by not having to put fuel in it every other day lol so as you would expect thats used all the time .. while the landy just rests .. I do use it for dumpin the rubbish to go to the skip with .. its currently half full Might use that as my excuse to use it on Monday :) and drop by the petrol station for some fuel on the way back .. If i dont sell it Im definately gong to pray for really really bad snow this winter :)
