So today I had my landy on stands to paint the wheels all at the same time, before I took them off I decided to run it while it was in the air. We noticed that the rear left wheel starts to turn and then stopped, under gentle throttle in first it rolls with the rest but then stops. The landy has been modified a fair bit over its life I am told by a previous owner I found on Facebook(who did the engine and gearbox swap) that this includes the diffs. Could this just be a broken half shaft?
Any advice would be great am new to all this and learning as I go aswel.

is that just the peculiarity of how the diff works normally, the real test is driving normally in 2wd and if you move forward it’s ok ,

If the diffs have been changed for different ratios, you should check the accuracy of your speedo before driving past speed cameras.

That is just what standard open diffs do [ as fitted to most vehicles ] It is there to allow the wheels to turn at different speeds when going around corners. When up in the air drive goes to the wheel with least resistance. Your left wheel has more resistance [ brake dragging a bit? ] so only the right spins.

It's permanent 4 wheel drive now.

Have checked the speed using 4 of them signs that light up with your speed as you approach them and seems right.

Well no I would have thought it would spin anyway having the least resistance as already stated. Find somebody to help you, Jack both wheels up and with one of you on each wheel spin them and feel for resistance

Do you still have the yellow and red gear sticks in cab , series gearboxes normally only in 4wd when you pull the red lever back or push the yellow know down
Or have you/had a more radical change in gearbox some pics always helpful

It's got a R380 gearbox and 300TDI so only the small lever, I'll try get some time to grab some pictures, also going to get a friend of mine who knows a lot about them to have a look and see what is actually under there haha

Thats permanent 4WD then.
Chances are the diffs were swapped for 3.54:1. I would like to see if its a disco box and how well its fitted so pics would be good,
