Hello all,
got questions on batterys and chargers. When not running the engine the battery voltage is 12.4v, when running the engine battery is only 14.7v.
Question is my alt is an 85amp/h daily run is 30mins morn and eve, should my battery voltage from the alt be higher than 14.4v, could the diodes be going, and i'm looking for a decent battery charger, got one of those old halfords type 7amp/h ones. i had my batt on charge for 4 days green charged light did not come on any ideas please
many thanks in advance

Your voltages when running and standing are fine, they're right where they should be.
Don't know a lot about chargers tho i'v always nicked my dads haha.......but theres bound to be someone on here that has an opinion on chargers.

ignore the green light. Your battery may be on its way out, but those voltages look fine to me. Does it start OK?

Thanks Guys i'll check the alt for wear, with ref to starting it is slightly sluggish starting but i have fitted an iso switch which is some way away from the batt, so there is a little bit more cable for electicity to travel from the batt to switch to startermotor. Old cable was about 2ft in length now the cable from batt to starter is about 5ft long so maybe as i've got a 72amp batt i need a 100amp to cope with possible voltage drop!! hmmm:rolleyes: any thoughts guys
many thanks in advance

where did you fit the isolation switch ?

Replaced old cable then went straight from batt to iso in cab to st/motor, so i can iso batt from cab not have to lift bonnet every time and lifting bonnet everytime i get was to be a pain in arse.
