Have decided to hang onto my Freelander td4 2005. Never had a problem it's been great. It is coming up 70k and I wondered if there was anything I should look out for. It's never needed any parts barring bulbs etc; but I wondered if there were any particular things to check out or look for at this 70k point. Thanks for any pointers
 
My 2005 Freelander has done 95k miles. Ive got no intention of changing the VCU because its not showing any signs of failure or malfunction. My tyres have been well matched and are always kept at the same pressure. Absolutely no reason to change a perfect working part of my car. Not to say im not keeping an eye on my VCU and have already contacted Bell Engineering to take advice.

Have you changed the engine breather yet? Worth changing for the BMW one.
 
mine as done 107k and i changed mine at 70k when they go wrong they just go no warnning so for what it cost to replace it is worth doing like i say it is a service iterm they dont last for ever one day it will go peace of mind

I agree with Zoolander completely.

My 2004 Freelander has also done 95K miles and I see no reason to change the VCU yet, as I check it regularly.

I've replaced the wheel-arch fuel pump and the prop-shaft support bearings, just recently.

MAF and turbo hoses needed to be replaced at around 86K

These replacements seem to be pretty much in line with what wears out & when.

I've replaced the front discs twice and the brake pads 3 times - but I do a lot of Alpine passes.

Rear door handle seems to be a rust trap for the bolts that hold it on - if I'd known I would have taken off the door card taken off the handle and killed the rust before the damn thing came away in my hand - £100 for a new one. :(

Spare wheel mount can also block with leaves etc, and goes un-noticed until its too late.

I too intend hanging on to this car as long as I can.

Our 2005 TD4 was bought when it was almost 3 years old and 30k miles, its now on 60k and has needed a new under wheel arch fuel pump around 40k and new front brake discs at 55k and thats it. VCU still good as well.
 
ok i have collected my freelander just over a week ago(iam new to 4x4's) its done 83000mils it had new head gasket but i think thats all that as been done vcu i think is the 1 it came with is there any warnings it going ??? as it stands it feels ok to drive
 
mine did 168000m before any problem with the vcu the first rouble was a rumbel and the whole car shudered so I got it chaged a bit late though it took the auto gearbox as well so had it redone the vcu was of freelander spares and it gave up after a short while but they sent me a replacement and all is well you do not say if your is manuel or auto if it is auto get the gear box fluid changed
