1. I just drove it 205 miles and used 22L of Diesel, that more than 40mpg. :car:
2. My back is one piece as I have nice comfy seats :p
3. I don't have earache cause my discos not noisy.
4. I was not having to drive stupidly slowly and was having no problem keeping up with traffic. Once she is up to speed she just stays there.
5. Everything that was working when I set out is still working :jaw:
6. If I have a problem, I have access to great forum who give me all the support and advice I could ever want.

Now then lets see who else can give me 6 genuine reasons why they love their Landy?

I call bull**** on the mpg! Your maths is way out, its a physical and chemical impossibility for it to have done that much unless you were driving constantly downhill with a 30mph tailwind

In no particular order:

1. It's an icon
2. It never gives up - been in some dodgy situations and it's got me to where I need to be
3. It's really loud (straight through) and scares people
4. Awesome stereo system
5. If someone bumps their car into it or opens their door against it in the car park, it damages them not me :)
6. It's quicker than most other Landys'

No bull**** I was amazed but I know exactly what was in the tank. I put £30 of diesel into an empty tank which equated 22l and in ran out after covering 205 miles. Before I serviced her she was consitantly returning 38mpg. After a thourough service she is now on the nice side of 40mpg, mind I have always been good at getting good mpg out of car. Its not about the speed you drive its smoothness and keeping the engine at the best rpm. In my case 1700 to 2000rpm is her sweet spot.

1. It just an incredibly beautiful shape
2. It's in my favourite colour Plymouth blue
3. It's spacious and comfortable
4. It has no rot at all, not even any
5. It has that lovely V8 burble

No wait hang on.. that's my fantasy RRC.. I actually don't love either of my LR's sorry! :D

I get around 36mpg and generally drive at 2000 to 2250rpm so driving at the revs you mention, then I'm pretty certain you would get 40mph. It's all about driving technique, some of us have it, some don't ;)

I get 28mpg on my 200tdi 90, that's with snorkel & pump tweak etc with 265 big grippy Graham's. And a heavy right foot to hear the straight through :p

Oo and err

1- its big enough people can notice you on the roads and generally move out the way
2- can tow many things with it
3- just a big toy keep on adding bits to it
4- goes anywhere unlike a little tin pram people drive :p
5- simple to fix

40mpg...what engine is it???

Only the best ;)

300tdi manual Disco 1. Done 166k, serviced every 4k last time within 500 miles and a driver who is anal about fuel economy.

I have never used full throttle on this car and normally only ever use maximum half throttle keeping the revs between 1500 and 2250rpm on hills and the highest gear that doesn't labour the engine on the flat. So 30 in 4th 40 in 5th which both equate to about 1250rpm. With my car I find revving it above 2250rpm is unnesesary unless towing, you don't get much more power just more noise. If i'm towing then I might let her rev higher as she'd bog down if I changed up as she would be only just hitting the turbo in the next gear. My turbo seems to spool in around 1500rpm and is properly boosting by 1700rpm
I try to not use the brakes where possible as braking is wasting fuel, but keep up a steady speed. let her slow down in advance of corners/junctions so that I only need to brake lightly and pull away with minimum throttle, but enough to not hold up traffic. It does help living out in the sticks as quite often there is nothing behind me so I don't have to worry about ****ing them off.

Interestingly I do the exact opposite in the DAF that has a two position throttle on and off . I find it best with that one to get it up to speed as quickly as possible and then let the vario keep it there. Last long journey in that gave me 38mpg over 312 miles not bad for a 47yr old petrol engine.
