I tend to use the same US brand as much as poss, mainly as the family have associations directly to them for decades now.
Although with a self basting V8 it is tempting to go for the cheapest I can lay my hands on.
Just a quick look at the Motor Oil Bible which will go into far too much detail trying to explain the complexities, and that is enough to open your eyes and at that point it is then it is up to you to make a choice, like anything in life.
