I have been considering embarking on a journey of almost 5000 miles starting in the south east of England, traveling through France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, North to Denmak then into Sweden, carrying on all the way north into Norway then heading south and back into Sweden and home again.

All this would be in the winter and for no real reason than an adventure and to maybe peak at the Aurora Borealis. Is it really feasible in a near as damn it 20 year old Disco 300tdi that has had a bit of a rough innings? Curious to hear other people thoughts.

The saaaf east is really dull.....I'd avoid that bit

I have not committed just yet! brgs are bearings yes? - not got the lingo yet!

F*cking lucky f*cking bastard! I'd do a complete overhaul first, replacing all bearing, uj's belts, fluids, filters etc but no reason the old girl won't make it. I envy u!!!!

would you worry about doing 5000 miles around where you live in less than 6 month's ? , damn good service and change what your really worried about , drop the dog at the kennels and off you go

Id love to do something like that! If i was you id spend abit of money on the disco at home first, easier and cheaper to do any work here rather than 5000 miles down the road, if i ever have the money would love to do up a defender 300 and do some big trips and keep us posted

He is only worried because it never get cold here in the South East

I'd go for it I frequently used to do 3,500 miles in a week on my 14 year old motorbike, it was just well maintained. I will be doing longer trips in my Disco when I get some more time odd.

I do regular trips to Belgium and the UK; 1000 mile round trips; snow, wind rain, sun. My 97' Disco has been more reliable than our freelander.

As everyone will advise, I'm sure, regular oil changes/services, and always carry a basic toolkit and spares: belt, bulbs, gaffa-tape, filters.

its only 5k miles through first world countries, i really dont see the issue.

I have taken a bought as seen 95/6 disco 300tdi on a 3500 mile trip the day after buying it, just topped up the fluids and bought european breakdown cover before i went off we went, no issues.

just service the thing and carry some top up fluids and make sure you have recovery cover.
