Hi everyone! I was hoping to tap into the collective knowledge of some of the folks here who maybe rebuild these motors more often than us over here on this side of the pond. Last year, during a spell of especially cold weather, I had a cam phaser fail and the chain jumped timing and well... I have bendy valve syndrome now. It occurred at idle just off start and with my bore scope I don't seem to see any significant cylinder wall damage. In fact, the engine will still slightly run, albeit badly. I'm about to start pulling the motor out and tear it apart. Now, for me, the world is mostly big block chevy's and LS's. So I would have zero hesitation boring a block out and throwing new pistons and rings in it. But these 5.0's have the Nikasil coating which not a lot of places actually do. Can anyone share their experiences rebuilding these 5.0's?

Welcome, there are actually some very good YouTube vids on these engine from the States. The 5.0 sc has a known timing chain guides issue look for lr4 5.0 etc.
Good luck

Oh yeah, I had done the timing chain guides a few months prior to this and had the tell-tale knocking. That was a miserable job. haha.

Welcome !
What has always puzzled me is how was it possible to get 5 litres out of a 3.5 block, when even boring it out to 94mm to achieve 3.9 led to the infamous liner slip syndrome.
Yes you can stroke the thing as well for a larger capacity (as LR did for the 4.6) but there must be engineering limits?

Sorry to ask a question rather than answer your own, but yours is the only posting I've seen on here by someone with experience of the 5litre capacity RV8.

TVR managed it, somehow.
