Hi mate. If you go to any good bookstore and get some O/S Explorer maps. Look for the green crosses(byways) you will find a network of good routes all over the UK. Though they're not cheap to buy, they're worth it. And check with your local Right Of Way officer if you're unsure because going off route only gives the ramblers more amo to take our byways away from us.

What part of the country are you in as my husband and I are keen off-roaders oursleves?

Rob, that site is excellent :) just what i have been after for Morocco next month. cheers :D

cheers , i'm jelous , you going to morocco , i'm staying in Portugal and keep planning my trip to morocco for next year;) , make lots of piccies and post them overhere so we can drewl a bit over them;)
Have a great trip!

I dont think they do. They have a very select few lanes which are legal to drive and its a bit of a minefield. I have some legal routes down in the Alps which i will be driving in August. They dont have the same system as us here and the OS mapping. Infact, OS mapping is regarded as the best in the world.

Wikiloc would be a good start, it is a good site.

Many Thanks griffdowg. That site is very good and is a good reference point to start. Unfortunately there is nothing in Northern France listed for 4x4s.

I have marked up a load of 'chemins rural' on my memory-map (I have the IGN maps) and am having a couple of days in France next week checking them out.

Is there any software where you can plug in a local area code and it brings up local trails/off road routes in Europe?

Thanks,

A hello might be a good start.......

I went to Greece and Turkey last year and it not hard to find an offroad experience there as long as you keep away from big cities and we found that garmin europe maps set at shortest distance will take you over some roads you might not go over in normal circumstances.
