My 2001 ford f150 4x4 is not engaging into four wheel drive. Its an
electronic shift. When I shift into 4-wheel drive, it sound like its
engaged ( low torge power) but front wheels are not spinning. Any
idea what is happening here? I got stuck in mud while white wing
hunting this past weekend.

Hey Backwater

I have a 99 F250. We have had a similar problem to yours, had it diagnosed
as the electronic shift motor.
Seems the doggone things are prone to going out.
ANother thing you might check is for a vacuum leak, and of course the fuse
panel but I would definitely check that shift motor.

When that happened on my '91 Explorer I pushed the 4X4 button and marked the
front driveshaft with white chalk and drove it forward a little to verify
that the front shaft was turning. It turned out to be autohub failure. I
now have manual hubs. I would have thought they would have fixed that
problem by 2001.
