Go to search on the menubar in the search box type "Mondo Mode" the results that will appear will lead you to a post telling you how to convert your freelander to 2 whel drive. Just as you were told several posts earlier.

earthling. . . .daft is a nick name given to slitty slop man. . . .its a term of endearment ,well cos eze just darft really, he wont get offended if you call him daft , will yer daft. . . . . .however you don't want to hear that , OK you can undo the front shaft on the prop , from the ird you have first a cv joint into a front propeller shaft with a uj [universal joint]held up with a propeller shaft bearing this then go's to the vcu to remove the drive shaft get a Haynes manual and follow page 8-3 you will have to get a special tool from lr to remove front drive shaft , but some have managed without it,i myself would also remove the vcu . . .but read up on mondo mode in search .you can down load the rave cd on this site [technical manual]. . . .hope this helps earthling:)

What I said was that if Ttom had done a search on the Flemish Hippoforum for this subject he would have found the needed information which was available since october 19th. Added also the URL for the thread in question so even no search needed anymore, what a service eh ??:D (And still getting complaints in the style of: "Waiting endlessly for a real answer.:rolleyes:", these youngsters, unbelievable no ?:) :) :) :) )

Knowing the ego all you guys have I always write in Flemish when I'm saying flattering things about you all. This to avoid you get it toooo high you see. (At least in Flemish you don't seem to understand, confirmed by your "que":D :D response (see 2 posts up), keeps you guys with your feet to the ground.......:p :p :p )

Only my neighbour (an independent (Land)Rover garage) told me about this possibility.
So, I just want to hear from people who experienced that 'mondo mode' in a diesel version.
;) Dus Willo op ons Belgisch forum is er nog maar één (benzine)rijder met die ervaring... Ik moet dus wat dieper graven!:p
 
It is quite common to convert to 2WD by simply removing the propshaft. I did mine 18 months ago (done 25000km since then). The result is slightly more power, better fuel economy, significantly longer rear tyre life, no IRD or rear diff problems. Plus I still use it extensively on ground roads in South Africa. Only time I miss 4wd is on wet ground roads, but so far have not got stuck yet. In the local Landy dealer they have rows of propshafts in storage. If you want to do seroius offroad, then they refit for you in 10 mins.Main reason for this is Landrover's inherrent IRD and diff probelms with the Freelander I. Mine is a 2000 Diesel XEDI.

I'm glad to know your experience with the 2WD. The decision is made: this wednesday mine will be a 2WD'er too.
As I only have done 90.000 km (=56.000 miles) with my FL I can stick with it for a whole lot of years (If luck is on my side)
 
Its got to be said that the hippo is a much better to drive in 2wd, but just think what will happen if you do get stuck and have to be pulled out by lets say a mini.Also there is the insurance issue.I know we all say that it wont happen to us, but it has to happen to some-one !!!

I AGREE WIFF BLIPS. . . .why have a 4x4 un change it to a dog x2 ok if it were switchable it would be a fantastic option , me un floppy flip man looked into this . . . .but it wasn't cost effective [parts were too expensive] unless someone has er nuffer idea ? :cool: :D :)
