Hi haven’t been around for a long time
I went out and got another Range Rover
This is a p39 on a N plate 4L with Head gaskets gone
Do they suffer with cracking the Heads?
I know they have liner problems
Every thing works but tatty

Sorry you are wrong you can have a pours block and a cracked block
A cracked block will give you a slipped liner
A pours block will give you water pressurisation issues and loss and usage

Pours is more coman than a slipped linner
A pours block if caught early can be fixed with the irontite treatment but it is a 50/50 chance

ive removed alot of liners and only ever found cracks in ali bore but not saying its impossible depends on your experience

Experience 20+ engines a year and growing never had a failure. And I warrant the engine for 12k most don't so am happy with my quality of workman ship or engineer firms work

Well she is in bits
The Head gaskets are showing where they have been burning on both sides
No 2 pot
The liners don’t look as though they have dropped so will have the heads skimmed and see how bad they are then I can work out what I will do with her
But I am thinking of refurbishing the heads and all so putting some car go Seal up in as well
The water pump is all so shot
Any throats welcome
All so what is the best Head set for the 4L?

Thanks I all ways try to stay Genuine so it is good to know
Have you used Seal Up before and if so what do you think?

Any sealer is just a bodge!
Only sealer I would try is irontite
Yes contradictory but been down this route irontite is the only sealer I have used that does work unless it is a major failure of the block

No I don’t use them either just that it seams to be that there every where these days
So just asking
Haven’t played with V8’s for a long time manly Jags and Astons
Went mad on eBay and ended up with this started of at £600 ended up at £400 so it is just for fun really
Will put Gas on if she runs ok

Hi all and thanks again for your help
Didn’t get much time on it this week but sorted out the electric fans going to use Rover 400
The frame is designed to take 2 fans but only have one so I have put 2 in
The frame is just right and with the fixing brackets does the job grate
And have most of the Gas on as well but have to find some where to put the torpedo tanks
The engine is nearly finishes so hope to have it running this week end
If I get time

how many blocks have you removed liners to prove pourous or cracked

loosing count average 3 engines a month buy another 3 a months for stock been stripping them since 1990's when was at land rover you?

on average every block as i have them tested before and after removing liners then retested after fitting usualy every 5 one needs the block welding
