Had my 53 Discovery 2 face lift for about 5 weeks now. I have gone over it top to bottom with full servicing & fluids all over plus a few other bits and pieces like fixing sunroofs and oil leaks, including cam cover & injector wiring loom.. it's now pretty sorted....last famous words

Tonight whilst turning right at near full lock, about 5mph... The four lights popped up on the dash, ABS, Handbrake warning, Traction control & Hill descent.

I've done all the brake pads in the last week, there doesn't seem to be any play or noise in any of the wheel bearings.

What's the best place to start ? Buying a diagnostic reader is probably a good bet.

If it's an intermittent sensor fault, do the lights self reset after driving for a while or do they need to be reset with the diagnostic tool ?

Hi Matgriff,

I would suggest finding someone local to you with diagnostics that work on a D2, could be if you clear them they will not come back, or they only happen at the extreme. Sorry, i have not had ( I am asking for trouble here , LOL) the 3 amigos , so I do not know if they stay once invited .

I have done around 5-6 stop start cycles and driven about 20 miles since it happened.... I guess it's a hard fault then..

Planning on buying a Hawkeye next week.... I'm in this LR game for the long run :)
 
Don't start getting drawn into the "4 amigos" mindset, not without having the fault codes read. You could be in the unfortunate position of having two sets of faults showing up at the same time (not beyond the bounds of credibility), one showing up as the well known 3 amigos and another on the braking system which could be anything from low fluid level in the master cylinder to something a whole lot more serious (and expensive).
 
Yes... hence the reason I'm going to buy a Hawkeye next week.

I'm thinking that as this happened at exactly the same instant in time, the 4 lights must be related to the same common fault.
BTW the fluid is not low

4 can be a damaged cable, has the ABS cable on one hub been pulled out of the sensor?

Need a code reader to know where.
 
Mine had all four come up, level was ok.
According to Rogers its not unusual for all four to come on.
New front hubs fixed mine.

OK this is now solved :)

Hawkeye reported LH side front sensor issue. The fault would reset but came back immediately the car moved.

I fitted a new replacement sensor...... hats off to the guy that designed it so that the sensor or the plug don't fit through the hole in the hub whilst it's still fitted........doh !!

Anyway I cut the cable near to the plug, threaded it through the hub & then re-joined it with a small waterproof two part connector inside the engine compartment, tested the sensor, reset the faults and 50 miles later no sign of those Amigo's :)

Sensor was £12 inc shipping from discount Land Rover spares... seems fine, although if it happens again I'll change the complete hub.

youn should have done that from the beginning IMO cos sensor failures are really rare but it can behave better as it's seated well this time but the play in the reluctor ring will get worst in time anyway
 
The reading of the static voltage on that sensor was 1.2v vs 2.5v on all the others, that was with the car stationary, in fact it was the same when I removed the sensor. I test fitted the new one without fitting it to the hub, and it was 2.5v, so in fact the sensor was faulty.

I checked the hub, it seems fine, no play or roughness, I also looked at the reluctor ring, it also seems fine.

No need to replace something that's not faulty ? But for £12 if it works then I'm happy.

It must have been the sensor that was faulty, because with the old one the fault would not clear at all, not like it would clear then return every few miles. As soon as I fitted the new one it cleared immediately. I've done over 100 miles now and it seems fine.

This afternoon I also replaced a faulty ABS sensor on my Chrysler voyager, which cured a similar problem. I've fitted 3 sensors to that in the 15yrs that we've owned it, so they do fail sometimes.
