Mates car so asking on his behalf.

Changed big ends
Changed cam shaft and tappets
Inspected rockers bit of wear not much at all

Any ideas what else could be causing this, comes and goes too.

Checked the manifolds seems to be comming from right side inside somewhere. I suggested a sticky valve. But not confident. He is trying to repair before selling with budget in mind.

Any ideas.

Will more than likely be a sticky tappet. Got a bit of **** under the ball valve.

That was the first thought. Changed cam and tappets, all new.

That unfortunately does not mean you can't have a sticky one. If you have one that's not sealing properly you can sometimes knock them into shape by running the engine at high rpm for a few minutes. But that is not a good idea if it's an automatic.

My '97 did that from the day I bought it. Only when hot and not with enough rhythm to narrow down location. I also changed camshaft, valves, rocker gear, rings and big end and main bearings. Only thing I didn't change was the wee end bearings. It was still there when I was done. Luckily this was not the reason for the strip down or I would have jumped off the nearest cliff:D

you cant change little ends as there arent any ,the conrods are not fully floating ,ive known pistons distort ,and even one with a liner distort oval

Yeah suggested manifold blow, but it comes and goes?

Suggested zx1, its had good results. Maybe give it a go.

Cheers chaps.
