Also which battery make is best for Gems as got a Bosch one twice replaced under warranty doesnt seem man enough so ordered an exide commercial.

They do have tantrums, usually electrical associated.
If you battery’s dead then that needs doing before you start diagnosing. Can cause GB fault etc

MF-31 1000cca 120Ah is best battery for all P38s.

I prefer the Platinum 642X but each to their own.

Have you got the RF drain issue? That will kill batteries quick. Check which receiver you have. Marty has a fix for £70 and Brian for £7.

Alternator output has to be above 14.2V with calcium batteries. If you have an old alternator the set point might be 13.8V which will slowly kill a calcium battery. You can get replacement gubbins to change the set point to 14.5V for under £20 delivered.

Which fuse was it that blew? The one that does the EAS and starter motor? Could be a worn EAS pump jamming, although I think that might be a 30A fuse now I think about it.

Fuse boxes do burn out occasionally. Have a good sniff in there.

Grrrr... re calcium batteries, do you have a link for the voltage regulator/ set point replacement you mention?

It has had a new alternator fitted.

Just checked the RF receiver and have uploaded a photo.

Is this the original one which can cause battery drain?

For certainty you need to take the cover off to look at the PCB, reputedly there are different coloured stickers to denote the different versions but it's not a reliable way of telling.

Yes, blue was original. Then it went yellow, tgen green. However, as Data implied, some sellers flog blue ones but put a green dot on so check the serial number. Better off just buying @martyuk 's fix though. Someone here will know the link. Dan?

Cheers lads.

On another note I took it off to see if battery drains. When went to start it engine disabled press remote.

Assume that needs to plug in to disable the engine?

What’s this £7 fix @brianp38dse?
I just have mine unplugged (1995 blue dot),

it still works so long as you are close to the vehicle and causes no issues. Later models are bit different I think because of the passive coil
