Hi all
Am losing coolant from my 4.6 LPG range rover, I have had all pipes checked and they seem to be fine but it keeps happening.
is it possible the expansion cap is at fault as last time the water appeared to be lost from the "overflow" pipe attached to the expansion tank.
or is it possible that it overheating to such an extreme that the expansion cap just releases the coolant as the temp gets hot?

Thanks

Phil

Make sure you don't overfill the header tank. Any overfill will be forced out of the overflow. Have the cap pressure tested, it should release at just over 15 psi. If it releases before that it is duff.

Check the gasket under the throttle body. Had the same problem and found that gasket leaking slightly. Should cost £25 ish to buy and half hour to fit and it cured mine :)

hi thanks for replies
the top hose when it has water in it has slight movement when you squeeze it
Buttas - I'm afraid I'm new to RR so I don't know where the throttle body is :(

Get someone to static test it. Then check for leaks. You can also use the static test kit to see how much prassure is being built in system by attaching it then running engine. Just follow large inlet pipe from air filter to engine first thing it connects to is MAF then from that next thing is throttle body. If you need to ask such questions you should not be playing with things. Get someone to look at it for you.

I'm not too technical either but :

standing at front of the car, the 2 throttle cables that run across the top. Where they stop at the right hand side is the throttle body - There is a plate and a gasket on the bottom (2 pipes coming out of it). This Gasket was leaking on mine - see pics

something new just happened, battery died so got a jump start, done a 60 mile spin, got home and decided to try the heating, put both up to high but only cold air coming out, tested hoses in engine compartment , they all seemed nice and hot so beats me as to why. when i refilled the expsnsion tank i ran the ebgine and made sure coolant came out top hose on rad so in theory no air lock , anyone any ideas??

Either blend motors or the jump start has confused an ECU. You could try disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes, but make sure you have your EKA code handy before you do it.
