So im currently hunting for another range rover, and iv seen a few 4.4 n/a jaguar engined ones i guess there wasn't that many,
Has anyone had any experience of these engines? Are they an improvement over the bmw 4.4 v8?
Are they ok reliability wise?

My work commitments have changed for the foreseeable which is 8 miles each way on a main A road, 5miles each way in the evening to my workshop on a main A road so hardly much,

Ideally i wanted an 07-on 4.2 supercharged with the newer interior but iv seen a couple i like with the pre 2007 interior i like so not discounting the earlier interior,

I have seen a few 3.6 tdv8s i like but im quite set on wanting a petrol vehicle

AJV8 N/A is a fantastic engine, a far superior unit to the M62..

Easily the most robust of all the L322 engines.

2007 to 2009 AjV8 engines do not have chain tensioner problems. This starts in 2010. I have never read anything bad about the AjV8 engine. Seem to be bulletproof. I have a 2008 SC with 220K km and no issues other than a leaking coolant hose which I easily replaced ( although the hose was $150).

Worth a look at around 150k miles? Where as the supercharged ones im looking at are give or take 100k miles,
If so Il add it to my list of ones to see over weekend,
Being in Scotland and wanting to travel to avoid rust and finding somthing honest even if its not perfect is the most important

Henry reckons the coolant pipe between the V can let go horribly but the 2001 version in my Jag is like new at 90k miles. All I have ever done is the standard service, although I change the oil more often.

They'll do 200k easily.

Worthy input, il go see it, its 300miles closer then the others i plan to see, the one i was originally set on iv not heard anything back in 2days called twice and messaged on whatsapp where we did video call on when i first asked about the motor, did speak and arrange to see on the 26th and ready to drive it away that day, all iv asked is a time to see it as its 200miles from home and id need a lift down but i dont belive in this day and age someone hasn't looked at their mobile in 2 days to reply,

My research is the same what members have said above. From experience, I have the 2006 V8, not supercharged, LPG, so far no problems. I have not had it for long, thought. It has no problem off roading, just ticks along, and it has enough for the road. Did not go SC as it is not friendly with LPG and one less thing to go wrong. The SC has extra c90bhp in comparison, unless you go for the 5L SC. On a side note if of interest, in terms of MPG, on a motorway I managed to reach 22mpg, but not sure how trustworthy that is. I think 16-20 is the real average. Unless you are all the time in the city, then 6-16 depending on style and traffic.

They must have improved, the AJ V8 in my son in law's Jag lunched itself when the bore coating failed.
Yep the AJ27 early V8's sometimes suffered from the nikasil liner issue caused by high sulfer fuel that plagued german V8s of the same era.

The latter 4.0 4.2 and 4.4 had all the problems rectified.

Recently bought a used car for my brother. What a PITA. People advertise cars on Facebook or Craigslist and never reply to your queries. Still waiting to here from a guy with a P38 I am interested in. I think it's rude to not reply.

Yeah they responded on marketplace, gave me a number did a video call around motor ect, explained i could leave a small holding deposit till i get and see it for myself which he didnt want, seemed so nice and genuine shame really,
Iv got the number for 3 to call about but have only just sat down so have messaged to explain and asked if its okay to call tonight or tomorrow,

I had one i wanted to possibly see but got 1 reply saying yes still avaliable then no response,

I found a beautiful looking dark mettalic red 2010 tdv8 (not my main choice of engine but still was worth considering) that was up for 6500 with an intermittent active damper fault so i messaged and asked a couple of questions, the usual how long have you had it? Any immediate issues or anything lingering i need to know about i dont mind a few niggles aslong as i know? How dose it run? and he offered it down to 5100 without me even mentioning price ALARM BELLS RINGING,

@newb thank you for the input its helpful, my budget wont stretch to a 5.0 sc or a 4.4 tdv8 as common knowledge is to keep a bit for whatever niggles are found unless i want to pay strong money for a td6 again or a bmw v8 one finding one that isnt black silver or grey is a challenge too,

Theres a grey 4.2 sc on 128k miles in grey on auto trader with a 2 tone interior for only £2995, im suspicious why is it only £2995 considering most are 4k-6k sometimes more

Its a minefield my old td6 i wanted a td6 and it was on my doorstep in front of me and cheep enough to go yeah il just have it see what happens actually focusing on finding one that gives you the buzz and ticks all the boxes is a different game

Ah, that's the early ones. They also had tensioner issues and a throttle body problem, all fixed by 2001.
