I just crowd any old atf into mine, but I am a whats to hand will do type of guy.

I think the proper stuff is called mtf = manual transimssion fuid?
 
After changing the oil try driving it in a kind way,take a little longer on the change.Try doing a blip change,this is a touch of throttle between the gears.It is an old box and with a bit of help may well go on for a while longer.

ATF. I meant it could have been filled or topped up with EP oil which goes in your diffs and transfer box but is not suitable for the gearbox, that has to have ATF.
ATF is usually Red in colour.
You might get lucky and it's just got the wrong oil in it? Worth a punt before ripping the box out.

Yeah definitely worth a go. How much oil will I need?
 
Quick update. Changed oil. Runs perfect going up through the gears but crunches a little bit going down from 4th to 3rd
