Has this ever been done?

The 3 door roof rails allow better mounting of rear work lights as I'm still thinking of best way of mounting mine,

Anyone on here done it? Is it difficult?

Bearmach used to sell an extended roof rail kit for the 5 door that went right to the back of the roof the car.
Don't know how these were secured at the back though, have a look under the plastic trim and see whats there.

Hmm, I can't seem to find anywhere that sells those :(
The freelander 2 rails look similar but doubt they will fit

You could try e-mailing Bearmach to see if they have any left, not been in their catalogue for a few years now, £150 they were.
A Safety Devices Expedition roof rack looked a lot better sat on them than on standard rails.

Not keen on the ones that go down the back but i like the longer version off the roof rails wonder if they got any left

The first ones look like Freelander 2 rails. The second ones don't look very supportive, there's no centre support between the rails and the roof.

The bloke made them roof rails himself, and are strong enough.
He also made that trailer.
He put the car mods and trailer build online, think it was on the Freelander Club website.
Those flat cross bars come with the roof rail kit, as well as seperate, and were being sold long before FL2 came out, I think Paul bought some off Doobrydog when he had his hippo.

The ones Paul had are like mine......Facelift 3Dr cross bars. Genuine LR parts.

And I said they look similar, as they do. :)

Ok, they may be strong.....still don't think they look right....and I've been to Specsavers, have to wear glasses for driving as I'm slightly short sighted in one eye. :D

I wander how they are fitted on the rear? I can't see any where that sells the full length bars! I wander how hard it is to diy?

Cant see the point in this mod?

sort of defeats the purpose, the only reason for wrap around bars on the 3dr is to give support when the hardtop is removed..............nothing else.

A waste of a perfectly good 3dr roof rack

Nice ladder rack though ;)

Probably drilled the rear quarter panels and some sort of captive nut in the shell,

the bars are aluminium and do flex quite a bit, any extension will increase flexibility.

They are also prone to splitting along the seam

Yes, a Top Bloke is Colin. He bought that V6 bumper from me when I was first modding my V6. He also got me a place on the Freelander Owners Club stand at Billing just a week later, even though I wasn't a member, so that people could see that the Freelander was capable of being modified.
Colin was at Billing this year and has made even more mods to his designs.
I'm wondering whether a set of rails from a breaker could be cut and used to extend the existing ones. That's how it looks on the Bearmach site - like they just have an extention on them.

I'll have to get myself to the breakers, I'm hoping if a pop off the plastic gutter thing that there will be existing holes nearer the back,
