I only bother about fuel consumption if I'm driving a fuel efficient car, it seems a pointless exercise in any kind of landy. If I could get 10% better fuel economy in my series, I wouldn't notice it

Mine gets about 28 to 30 out of the TD4, but thats round the doors and sitting in traffic. Long run I think I get about 38 to 40 - wondering if I have a problem after reading this?

For an automatic, 28 Mpg is about right. For a manual, it's low.

I get about 24 from the td4 at the moment o_O ...but a lot of my trips are really walking distance (for me, not for the small person that I have to take to school), and others are no more than about two miles. However on a run it seems quite good, pushing 40 I think. Even the low mpg around the town is still about 40% more than I got from the 1.8 doing the same journeys (both manual).

Just filled the L Series up. 590kms of mainly town traffic, and our son's been using it for a week while we've been away - hence needing to fill up! 49 litres - so 8.3 l/100km or 34mpg in old money.

Filled up the other day after our road trip round the top of the South Island. Total of 2,050kms with lots to steep and long mountain climbs in there rising up to 2,500 feet and 5 adults on board. The last 250 or so kms was around town till I filled up. Total fuel 157 liters - so about 7.6 l/100km or 37mpg.
