Hi Guys,

Anyone know specifically the lift required on a Defender County 110 for the following;

33" x 12.5 x 15 Mickey Thompson Baja Claws
35" x 12.5 x 15 Mickey Thompson Baja Claws

I've heard the 35" will require lift of at least 2" and cutting away bodywork around arches. I already have extra 2" on rear, I'm planning on having 2" on front to then fit the 35"s.

My vehicle wont be used off road just yet so no real bouncing around.

Also can I get away with standard shocks? I know by lifting 2" you reduce the amount of articulation.

Yeah thats what I thought initally but I'm sure I read people fitting 33" without lift.

Does a 4" lift entail more than just switching to bigger springs? (ie shocks, brake lines, steering etc)

I ran 33s for over a year with no lift (and very soft springs). You can run 35s on a 2 inch lift but you will need to trim the arches a little.

Thats the news I was hoping for! Thanks :)

When you say trim the arches, I'm imagining trimming away the actual bodywork the arch currently attaches to and raising the existing arch. Then ideally getting extended arches for legality. Is this what you mean? How many inches of body work am I looking at trimming away?

Running 315/75/R16 (equivalent to 35") Hankook Dynapro M/T on my 110 at the moment.

It is currently on a very soft 2" Terrafirma lift, and has an extremely heavy front bumper haha. Have fitted extended arches, and the tyres rub slightly off road when articulating and turning at the same time.

Will soon be fitting a heavier duty 2" spring kit and 1" spacers, which should bring the whole thing up a lot.
 
33s will fit without lift as I have 33s on my 90 and they where on there before I fitted my lift kit and was fine but for 35s you will need a 2inch lift
 
One thing that I would say though is that Baja claws are quite 'big' for their size; i.e. they're often a lot taller than other tyres which are supposedly the same size. So add that into your calculations...

I looked up the 'real' sizes of the Baja Claws and couldnt find details on the 35"s but the 33"s size up at 32.70'' tall approx, so I imagine it'll be a similar difference with the 35"s.

Yet another question.. What do I do about the speedo? Obviously larger wheels will make the speedo display slower than actual speeds. My current wheels are 30" or so. How big a difference will 5" make when stepping up to a 35" wheel? ;)

The picture below is a mate of mine's 90. He runs 35 bfg mud terrains with bearmach +2 springs. He only had to trim the plastic arches at the rear of the front ones, and the front of the rear ones. ;)

MY BFG 33" MT's are fitted with +2" and I get no rubbing, no arch cutting, etc etc.

They do however make my speedo read about 10% slower, according to my GPS.
30mph displayed on Speedo, 33mph on GPS,
Similarly, 60mph on speedo 65-66mph on Gps

I just live with it and I know that my indicated speed is slower than i am traveling.

I thought the biggest BFG Muds are 33". The Krawlers go to 37" but they're not road legal

The picture doesn't look like its got 35" on

No they are definitely 35"s, they are the old style (KM2s??) however the new version are also available in a 35, the same lad ordered a set last week, sadly no piccies though. His old set do seem to be closer to a 34", however they are very bald now.

Google comes up with a few places you can buy a 35 12.5 r15 mud terrain

So they do, 34.8" inflated. Never seen them in UK though. Shame they're for 15" rims and too wide for my liking.
Tallest I thought was 255/85R16 in the old BFG M/T.
 
Yes they are pretty difficult to get hold of in this country! I think he had to special order the new ones from the states but not too sure. Dad runs BFG 255 85s on his 90, great sized tyre :D
