Ok guys, quick question - is the 300tdi in factory fit Range rover classic the same as the discovery engine or the defender engine? (or maybe neither!) Suggests what donors might work...
Thanks!
did according to wiki Range Rover Classic - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stand corrected then. Thought the P38 RangeRover II came in in 1995 and production of classics ceased in that year. I had a 94 Disco with the 200 TDI then a 95 fitted with 300 TDI did not think that engine came in until 1995. Someone will know the proper story no doubt.
.
I think all the soft dash diesels were 300tdi. Can't imagine there was any difference between disco and classic.
There is a section on RR.net that goes through all the changes year by year. I think the 200tdi came in in 1990 and the 300tdi in 1993

Sorry about that, what I meant to say was I didn't think there was any difference in the 300tdi fitted to the disco compared to that fitted to the RRC. I've no idea what year they changed over engines in the disco.
For what its worth, a lot of Defender guys claim the 200tdi was a better engine than the 300. I had a 200tdi 92 RRC and thought the engine was great so if you do come across a softdash 200tdi snap it up. But I've never seen one.
Also I'd say a 300tdi auto would be fairly sluggish.
On your L reg, doesn't that happen a bit where they run out older models? My (pre Irish reg)T reg P38 is a 98 MY.
