Hi, ive just tried to start my defender and it didnt even try. it turned over as normal but didnt try to fire. I traced the fuel system, got fuel to and out of fuel filter and to pump but not out?? it started up fine about 3 hours ago. I took the inspection plate of the timing cover just to check for obvious and all seems ok. Earlier today i fitted egr bypass and cleaned out the inlet manifold but i dried it all out with the compressor and as i say it run better than ever afterwards. Any ideas? cheers

try pulling solenoid wire of pump and touching connector with ignition on see if it clicks check fuel by slackening front banjo on pump, check pumps turmimg while cranking by removing front inspection plate

i cranked it while the inspection plate was off and everything looked ok. i had fuel coming into the banjo when cranking. where is this solonoid wire? if im getting fuel in does this mean its working? ive seen the sensor on top with 3 wires? looks like a rotary sensor? sorry for all the questions

The stop solenoid is at the back of the pump near the bottom.

The 3 wire sensor at the top of the pump is for the EGR valve.

Had a look today, found the solonoid wire off and spade connector loose so I remitted that and it started first time :) learned something new everyday. Thanks a lot for your help mate
