Pinned and ringed, ( fourby ring ) although I cannot see that affecting the actual boost, just the fueling in the pump when the turbo pressure is applied.

I guess the cheap chinese actuator may have slightly different springs / rod lengths. I will turn it down a bit ( increase rod length) but the good news is it smokes a bit less,:p. oO I wonder if the wastegate was stuck slightly open with the old bent rod, the wastegate flap did seem very tight when I disconnected the old rod.

Spools up really quickly as well.

I thought one aided the other. Bit more fuel helps increase the revs which puts more gas through the turbo which helps deliver more air for the extra fuel and so on. I'm thinking my fuel supply is limited as the FIP isn't delivering it, probably because the diaphragm isn't moving the pin as well as it should as it may be perished. This is just a theory. If the boost from the turbo was operating the FIP properly, then I think I might get more fuel through and so more exhaust gas and so more boost from the turbo.
I don't know though, cos I don't know what I'm talking about. :(:D
 
If you want to check if your diaphragm is perished and has leakage why not try applying air pressure using a hand pump to the pipe that comes from the turbo and see if it holds pressure or it drops, same as checking to see if the wastegate actuator is working correctly.

Yep, iirc I think I used a footpump with the inflatable adapter on the end shoved in the actuator pipe ,pumped it up until the actuator moved, then left it for a few minutes to see if the actuator moved because the unit was defect. Do not see why it wold not work to see if the pump diaphragm had a leak issue.

Hmmm, I'd have to find a pump & gauge. Got a bike pump, don't actually have a car tyre foot pump!
If what I've read is correct, it doesn't take much doing to change the diaphragm? It's just that taking the top off the FIP has been one of those taboo things and, I've had plenty other stuff to focus on on rebuilding the body and the engine :(
It's got a death wobble when braking at high speeds at the moment, so that's top of the agenda for now. Now that the leaking oil cooler pipe and leaking spill pipe have been sorted :rolleyes:
 
Had one of them, new discs and pads sorted it.

Yeah, but mine aren't very old. I've got the dust shields on the front, so it's a bit tricky to see the back of the discs. I suspect that there might have been a rust lump develop. I'll have to get the discs off to check properly. I've got new wheel bearings and pivot bearings to go in, so when I get around to doing that I'll hopefully find something.

Can you / anyone tell me approx length to start. Mine was replaced and noticeably longer, have probs too much fuel knock, black smoke and not as much boost obviously. I cannot believe in factory they have a rolling road / drove each one with a t-piece boost??? I also have the fourby boost controller to fine tune later, and an egt to make sure no cooking so any guide good right now! it’s a chinese replacement wastegate btw from

I did end up getting a boost gauge and checking the output. As I have an EGT gauge fitted, and it is pinned , ringed and fueling adjusted, plus I have the fourby controller as well. Currently running about 23 PSI. So my rod length is not std...Oooeerrr..

however I have been since been reliably informed that with boost pressure adjuster no need to worry about rod length...???

The boost controller, stops the boost getting to the wastegate until it hits the pressure you require, which is why it is a good idea to fit a gauge to see what you have it set to.
