Are you trying to do 1/4 mile racing ?

Don't get a 300tdi, they are not designed to do that.
They trundle around, gentle accelleration, gentle braking, counytyside chuffers.
They also have really solid chassis (when new) and good solid beam axles and transmissions.
Ideal for mooching about in the fields and the English rolling countryside.

They are not rock crawlers nor are they Paris-Dakar contenders.
They are not long distance travellers either.
You can tow 3.5T with them and have a great low range gearbox/transfer case which combined with all-axle drive capability make them really good at towing beasts/horses around the farm fields and to and from the local sale/pony show.

Hi. No I don't, I didn't have any measured data of the engine before I started modding it or after, however, I can tell you it has made a mahoosive (technical term) difference.
The engine feels smoother.
The full width intercooler and the VVT made a big difference with the boost coming on earlier and the increase in cooler air mass giving me a smoother more consistent accelleration.
Sending the FiP off to Diesel Bob helped too.

I do have larger than normal wheels/tyres and a 1.22 ratio transfer box, which along with the turbo, reworked FiP and the larger intercooler give me excellent road manners when i'm up around and over 40mph. The car loves the motorway/dual carriageway, 70 to 75mph is no problem at all but, that's not where i'm at, if I want distance/motorway driving I will use my Hilux.

The next job is to install a 1.41 LT230 which will drop the top speed but will allow the revs to climb quicker offering me a little more power when I am towing a trailer full of wood off the field and up the hills towards home. It should also sweeten the drive in the 20 to 40mph zones with less gear changes and improved smoothness.
I reckon the 1.4 tfer box is excellent for the defender.
Transformed mine, which had a 1.169 tfer box fitted, that was hard work I can tell you.

No, but occasional heavy towing on steep hills, etc. Also obviously being quicker than your mates is also cool.

If you look around the scappers you'll see what went wrong with the defender.
After the TD5 they started putting transit engines in them, engines that offered more power and faster accelleration/top speeds etc.

The yards are full of these cars that have all suffered crash and roll damage.
It's not cool to go fast in a Defender.

Ive got a discovery. But theyre all basically the same, and the 1970 RRC had 135hp, which is more than any standard diesel defender ever had. Its all about driving them conservatively. Probably so many defenders crashed because people bought them as fashion statements and drove them like cars...

Puma's have the same HP as a Td5 stock for stock and similar tuning ability. Puma's also had a top speed limiter out of the factory....
