Hi all, thanks for reading, I know most people have asked about doing this conversion the other way round but i wondered what was involved in changing my range rover classic 300tdi to a 3.5/3.9 v8? ? reason why i ask is i love my rr to bits and had alot of work done on it, i just find it too slow and would prefer something more quick as i do quite a bit of motorway driving in it. if anyone could shed some light on the subject i would be very greatfull,

many thanks, seb.

I'd put a 3.5 in it with a twin turbo kit (Janspeed?) this engine should be pretty bulletproof and won't suffer slipped liner issues.

Can't help you with conversion advice except to say that, if it's a car that you intend to keep & hope to re-sell eventually, any conversion will effect the value. Having owned four V8 RRC's myself I can tell you that they are no flying machine, in either 3.5 or 3.9 form & are not for the faint-hearted when it comes to fuel consumption. Having said that I agree with Steve - go for a 3.5 (efi will give you another 30+ bhp over the carb version) there's little to chose between the two capacities on performance & the 3.9 (like all the 94mm bore versions) can slip liners.

youd need to change gear box ,cross member ,engine chassis mounts, pedal box,fit fuel pump/sender assemly in tank ,change rad etc if you get an efi get loom, ecu etc with it ,if similar age from rrc will just plug into bulkhead loom near brake pedal ,otherwise easy to wire into system engine loom as is can be modded to fit v8 for temp sender .oil pressure, starter etc

And buy shares in BP and Shell.:D:D:D

Not at a cruise, that's the beauty of Turbos over superchargers, they only spool up if you're making a demand. If the Turbos are suitably matched to the application it should use barely more fuel than a NA 3.5 at a constant speed. I had a twin Turbo (2xT3s) Rover Vitesse - fuel consumption at 70mph hardly differed from standard. 300+bhp and 7mpg when you hooved it. :D Although I wouldn't run anywhere nearly as much boost in a Range Rover. Oh, and I already have shares in BP! ;)

same with supercharger,,bypass valve...tis 21st century

up the boost on the slug??run lpg injection...

put a proper v8 in her..not crap buick pooh if going that route..lol.

well the 300 tdi ones are worth more so sell it and buy a couple of v8 ones, at least one of them may be working well er sometimes :p

lol cheers for the reply guys, didnt think it was going to take so much work, will probably look down the route of upping the power of the diesel, intercooler and fuel pump etc.

u can make the 300 go ok..pump mods..uping boost and improving intercooler,and exhaust..adding lpg...

but..it may go bang...
