Only 3 push rods bent. Fingers crossed mate.

It's 32mm left hand thread. (IT UNDOES THE OPPOSITE WAY TO A NORMAL BOLT;))If you can get a normal spanner on it then do that and shock it off with a hammer. If you can't you will need a viscous spanner. (they are about £10 to buy). A couple of quick blows with the hammer and it should fly off.

Is the belt pulley still attatched or did you sheer that off aswell?

If it's still attatched don't panic. Just fit a leccy fan instead.;)

ok.....well other than gettin the bottom pulley and nut off its all stripped now..and unbolting the cover !

Consider replacing ALL EIGHT pushrods.
Even the five "straight" ones will have been stressed quite enough.

Only my advice mind ...

but won't that totally fook up the timing by replacing them all?
i though they should go back in where they came out?

or do you just adjust the rockers?

Fookin hell mate, yu done that good an proper then

Would have told yu Boomer has a fan spanner, but it seems a bit late for that now!!! God help the crank if you do that to the fan nut, cause thats only nipped up compared to the crank bolt :eek::eek:

Well with only 3 bent rods to show for your effort, yu might just get away with it.

Rod's won't change the timing, the timing will be the same, it's just if you use the wrong rods the valves might not open or shut fully.

You are supposed to keep the same rods in the same holes because the rod's sliders and tappets all wear together, and some might be fractionally bigger or smaller than others, so you keep them all with their respective components.

However after an event like this he will need to take the rocker shaft off, he will need to replace all the rods anyway (although only 3 look bent you can't actually tell if the others are OK without special equipment) for the sake of £2 a rod. So he will be doing his clearances anyway.

On assembly, put a good smear of molyslip or rocol assembly paste onto the ends of the rods.

huge hammers and chisels and things are just bloody course here, and you now see what happens if you use them.

Get a plumbing spanner from screwfix for £3, it fits perfectly, and then give it a good swift tap clockwise and it will come off no bother. At least you know you are exerting the force onto the nut the right way.

Disco 71,
I had a 300tdi timing belt snap on me years ago and I was advised by my local LR shop to just replace the bent pushrods (and timing belt of course). This turned out to be bad advice as a short time later a valve rocker arm snapped in half causing further damage to the engine which included bent valves (although I believe that some were bent when the cam belt snapped). From experience I would strongly recommend that you remove the cylinder head and carry out a very thorough inspection of each individual component. Having said that if you have a good engine repair shop near you, have them check the cylinder head assembly for you. Your call! BTW don't forget to replace the cylinder head gasket with a quality brand or better still a genuine LR Head gasket. Good luck with the LH Thread.
Cheers

i wud second that - if it the pistons have hit the valves (and they must have) it is possible that at the very least, they arent seating as well as they did. Better to take the time now and check it all, rather than a more expensive bill soon after rebuilding.

you two can stop trying to cheer me up for a start !

When i've finished doing the washing, hooverin, cleanin and cookin i'm about to go out in the beautiful sunshine and lose my temper trying to get the pulley bolt off.I even went and bough a new impact 30mm socket !
