I have a 300 on the garage floor.

I pulled it from a disco that had been retired due to chasiss rot. I only drove the vehical onto the trailer, nothing more - unknown condition but still had the egr connected, so probably not hugely messed with.

I'll never refit it as is. What I'm wondering as to is a leisurely rebuild / check over so as I know I've got a known good.

If I do this, how much of it will be replaced as a matter of course, and how much (if good) will be reused.

What I mean is, you're not going to reuse gaskets, but you would the crank shaft. But what about bearings etc.

What I'm trying to work out is what I'd be spending as a baseline, *before* I find any issues?

Thank you

Every one is different but it is common got the cylinder head to be corroded or the injectors or glow plugs seized in. The water pump housing also corrodes. Pistons and crank are quite strong and hold up well. Check for bore wear etc. Oil pumps are generally good but the back plate screws can come loose.

tbh, I think there is a lot of truth in 'if ain't broke, don't fix it!'.

You won't really know how it goes until you fire it up and drive it. Doing anything else will run the risk/reality of replacing things you don't need too. And still likely missing things that could/should be done.

It isn't all that hard to pull the engine back out and the engine bays are big. Meaning you can do most things to the engine in situ anyway.

As above, water pump and timing belt kit then leave it alone really. Generally 200&300s are just as good at 200k as when they were new
