I have yes. Unfortunately ran out of adjustment so can't advance it any further than the factory setting with a 9.5mm pin.

Tried removing the belt and repositioning the pump gear with no luck either

urg, not being funny but be careful you don't muck everything up settings wise.

go reset everything as much as you can to the orig settings.

  1. then slack 3 bolts
  2. stick in 9.5 drill bit. hold cog tight to right (cw)
  3. do bolts up.
  4. no knocking? repeat with 9mm
  5. continue until the engine just knocks, then go back to previous drill bit size.
  6. done

sorry i edited.. you reply too fast!

your belt on properly/ not slipped a tooth?
Haha sorry mate. I could retard the timing with a 9mm or 8.5mm drill bit. But I'm on maximum adjustment for advancing. So my maximum advancement is factory setting.

I fetched belt off, try to move it a tooth etc and even removed FIP gear and try to re position. No luck at all.

Belt was either too tight or too loose between cam and FIP

when fitting the belt you need to do it so you can advance the slot. i'd redo the belt :)

We tried that mate. Spent a whole afternoon trying to do that. But with the cam being locked in postion the belt was either too tight or too loose. It kept returning to the same position each time.

It shouldn't be sounding as rough as it does at factory settings either

Think I would be inclined to whip off the front cover and recheck all the timing marks just in case the cam mark is slightly out.

Did that last week mate. Here's a picture of the cam markings uploadfromtaptalk1435525720091.jpg

I did my timing belt and dint quite get the rockers set and it ran like a sack of spanners,

Did you adjust them after the belt change?

I've adjusted them before and after the belt change. No luck either way

Did 200 mile in the land rover yesterday, once warmed up it runs faultless. And the knocking noise is minimal with a steady idle.

did you mention that before?

it runs fine and you have power when warm?

sounds more like a bad spray pattern/sticky injector then

Tapping could be the Vac pump and a distraction from the actual problem - takre it off and see if the end is chewed up.. Mine sounds awful!

I'm going to try dad's injectors. And see how I go from there.

Then if that doesn't sort it ill remove the inlet manifold and check internals
