Found a part on my 300tdi defender engine that im sure isnt on my 300tdi disco. And ive part damaged it, so...

Its like a dish shaped thin bit of metal directly behind the crank damper - ie between the damper and the timing cover.

It looks like its to protect the dust seal?

Ive damaged it by conflicting it with the bolts on the puller that i was using to remove the damper.

is it err2100

could be - ill take a better look in a while.

however, this diagram -

certainly shows it in front of the pulley, whilst, on this engine, rightly or wrongly, it was certainly behind with its 'nose' pointing toward the front (as it is in the diagram above)

ive put 4 dents in it from screwing the M8 puller bolts too far.

What is the point of it? Seems that, if it was fitted in front of the pulley, then it would cover the 4-off m8 holes which are used by landrovers very own crank rotation locking tool?
